hteasley Posted August 18, 2017 Share #1 Posted August 18, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm an android user still waiting on an android app for the M... I can't figure out why they wouldn't have one comprehensive for all their cameras, instead of individual apps for each camera. Anyone know when they might release an android M app? hoppyman Posted August 19, 2017 Share #3 Posted August 19, 2017 Each system is different though including the interface and firmware. You cant control them all the same way. I don't know anything about the Android apps but for IOS, the SL for example required change to the actual camera firmware before the associated Image Shuttle app would work. Leica is not in the software business. If they had an all-in-one app for their cameras it would be priced out-of-reach. Consider updates, mandates. So individuals or contractors limit the scope of their product to limit liability. Finally consider the small market for Leica software - hardly attractive to a developer. Given their standardization on DNG and JPEG, I imagine separate apps is quite possibly harder than a single app. Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk

I did not know your focus was network standards, but regardless network standards are only a trivial layer in controlling the various Leica cameras. Below the network layer is the hard stuff, communicating with the camera's idiosyncratic natures in code they recognize. I have over thirty years experience in this stuff, I am open to revaluations, but the top stack has no relevance unless, of course it is broken. JeTexas Posted August 21, 2017 Share #7 Posted August 21, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Use a Toshiba FlashAir SD card in every camera, and the same FlashAir app will work with every camera. I think the problem is probably more that the various camera development teams are working in silos. If I remember correctly, the first app was developed for the Leica C, which was the only camera in their line-up with wifi at the time. It's probably been piecemeal development since then. However, you would think that at some point when all the cameras in the lineup have wifi, they would standardize to save cost and make it easier for consumers instead of supporting and updating all of the legacy apps. pico Posted August 21, 2017 Share #8 Posted August 21, 2017 (edited) Software development is not remotely as it was when I was a programmer using C (or c) which we could develop with or without proprietary libraries. Early firmware for the Leicas has dependencies rooted in known, proprietary development systems which makes it easy for inexperienced 'programmers' to make firmware without any experience in real software requisites. So their automagic code sucks. Leica M9 users - your firmware works largely by accident. . Edited August 21, 2017 by pico
marcg Posted September 10, 2017 Share #9 Posted September 10, 2017 Is there any way of leveraging the M10's wifi capability without a Leica app?
