PGI-9 Chip Resetter for Canon Pixma Pro 9500 cartridges

I have a Canon Pro9500 mark ii printer which has 10 ink cartridges; seven are colour and the other three are photo black, matte black and gray (grey).

These days I mainly only need the printer for mono work. Unfortunately the little beast won't print if it believes any of the colour cartridges are empty. I find that even if I don't use the printer very much for colour printing the colour cartridges seem to run out of ink exceptionally quickly. At UK£10 it's expensive to pay for colour cartridges I don't really need.

I have just come across a chip resetter device for these Canon cartridges.

My question is can I reset the colour cartridges the printer deems as empty and carry on with printing in mono. I presume that the machine only needs PB MB and gray for this? or is the purpose of the resetter to allow one to refill the cartridges themselves?

Are there any damage issues associated with this option?

Any other workarounds that members are aware of?

Thanks

John
