I managed to get out today for a short walk in the town centre, and sat next to this lady whilst drinking my coffee. She was engrossed in the book and didn't notice me.

Taken with my Leica M9 with the 24mm Elmarit f2.8.

Gerry, wonderful photo.  I'm curious.  With the 24mm you must have been sitting within a few feet of her.  Did she hear the shutter?  Did you raise the camera to your eye and compose or did you "shoot from the hip"?

Firstly, thanks for the compliment on the image. We were sat on adjoining tables outside the cafe, so I guess there was about 4 or 5 feet (1.2 to 1.5 meters) between us. Both of us had our backs to the window. I shot using the24mm 'add-on' viewfinder to the eye, and no, she did not appear to hear the shutter. Alternatively she assumed I was photographing something else, she was engrossed in her book and never even looked up.

Thanks again for your interest,

Gerry
