Not a single problem, everything worked like a charm. S007 with 4 lenses, M10 with 2. Just happy. 1500+ images to process... mgrayson3 Posted August 8, 2017 Share #2 Posted August 8, 2017 Same with my last 9 day walking trip through Europe. S(006), 2 lenses, zero problems.
djmay Posted August 8, 2017 Share #3 Posted August 8, 2017 Two weeks in Iceland with two S 006, four lenses and M-P 240 with one lens. I did not use the M-P 240. Wind, rain, cold. Some shots in driving rain are unusable because water spots on the filter are visible (24mm). Lesson learned; use longer focal length in driving rain. stephan_w Posted August 8, 2017 Share #5 Posted August 8, 2017 same here, more than four years of work with the S2 and 7 lenses, no problems (except maybe the AF-problem and that now the sensor has been replaced).
Photon42 Posted August 9, 2017 Share #6 Posted August 9, 2017 Sounds promising, guys. I use my S2 two weeks now with the Contax adapter - zero issues
hoppyman Posted August 10, 2017 Share #7 Posted August 10, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Zero problems with my S lenses so far. I just checked my lightroom catalog of last 3 years having an S camera. After deleted mistakes/test shots I have 27 000 + original DNG files, about 26 000 of those with my my Summarit S 70CS and APO Macro Summarit S 120

Have you had any MF motor/gear updates performed on the said lenses?
hoppyman Posted August 11, 2017 Share #9 Posted August 11, 2017 (edited) Hi, no my lenses were purchased new and have never needed any servicing. The AF issue is real, as acknowledged by Leica Camera. The incidence of problems occurring is not known publicly, but we have forum reports by some photographers of course.I haven't chosen to have my lenses preemptively serviced under the new arrangements. Currently both are within the five year window from my purchase. My judgement is that the fault is less likely to appear now, given their amount of use already.I need to add that my S (Typ 007) body had a broken CF card latch very shortly after the warranty period expired, which I had hoped may be fixed as a goodwill gesture (I reported it immediately but kept the camera to complete commitments before actually sending it). What actually happened was that the camera on disassembly was reported to me as having impact and liquid damage, neither of which I could reconcile as having ever occurred. Some of that may be language in part, in that it was referring to slightly sticky buttons. I have no explanation for what impact damage meant. It has never suffered any incident like that. The repair was expensive (about 10% of the new purchase price) and involved replacing the whole back of the body. Both of these reported problems do give me concern regarding how robust the camera is as professional equipment. My M (Typ 240) which did suffer a severe impact when I dropped it cost a fraction of that to repair including the Summilux 50 ASPH repair too.Balancing that S repair was that my third hand S2 body that I returned mistakenly thinking it had a card reading problem was found to have no fault and was inspected and tested/cleaned at no charge to me. hoppyman Posted August 11, 2017 Share #10 Posted August 11, 2017 (edited) AAAAND like some sort of taunt from the Gods of fortune after responding here today , I just turned on my camera to check everything for my next studio photoshoot tomorrow. The AF of my Summarit S 70CS just failed this minute (3 years old and ~20 000+ exposures in). I would guess maybe 5 000 AF actuations as I use MF mode with rear button AFs not every frameFeel free to laugh. To their credit the national distributor just apologised and are arranging for its collection by courier plus dispatching a loaner today for next business day delivery. Jeff S Posted August 11, 2017 Share #11 Posted August 11, 2017 Well, at least you avoided preemptive repair cost, or similar/worse if 5 years had passed. So much for the notion that regular use protects against failure. Jeff
hoppyman Posted August 11, 2017 Share #12 Posted August 11, 2017 My other lens (120) was purchased nearly 3 years ago too. I use the 70 more. I don't think that you can predict the failure based on actuation counts nor know how prevalent the problem is. I don't plan to have the preemptive repair currently but may do that within the 5 years if the fault has not occurred. I don't rely on this equipment to earn a living or I might consider that or better have s backup. I have a spare body being my third hand S2 and I have an SL with the 24-90. So I am rritated and a little inconvenienced only. The national distributor here is very supportive for me.
ZHNL Posted August 11, 2017 Share #13 Posted August 11, 2017 I was trying to post that I never have a single problem with my S2,S006 and any of my five S lenses during multiple trips to lot of places under cold, hot, rain, snow or sands. Hoppyman's case make me shut up.
hoppyman Posted August 12, 2017 Share #14 Posted August 12, 2017 That's a perfect reason to post that you haven't had a single problem, unless you are worried about those Gods of fortune noticing you ;-)In general my posts reflect my very positive experiences with Leica equipment but sharing disappointments too is being honest and balanced.

To their credit the national distributor just apologised and are arranging for its collection by courier plus dispatching a loaner today for next business day delivery. I notified Leica Australia late on a Friday afternoon. They had a demo that they were able to loan me. Next business day I received the loan lens and my faulty one was collected. Today 5 weeks to the day mine is back and delivered to my door with pickup for the prepared return package. That is interstate in Australia both ways plus the return trip to Wetzlar. Leica Camera Australia's support was examplary for this and thanks to the availability of the demo loaner, I think this was the best possible outcome for me. Zero costs to me. My second S lens I use less. It is the same age. If the failure does not happen by 4 and a half years, I think that I shall send it for the preemptive service
Likaleica Posted September 26, 2017 Share #16 Posted September 26, 2017 I've had the 120, 180 and 30-90 ever since they came out without any problems whatsoever. But, last year I got a used 100 from a very reputable dealer and the AF just went out after less than 200 uses. And I'm GLAD. Reason is, I could never get it to focus critically, which I now realize was probably a symptom of the underlying fatal disease. I took a one camera/one lens trip with it last October and the images were mostly out of focus, which I had attributed to overcast skies and hand holding. I'm anxious to see how it really performs. Just shipped it yesterday. We'll see how long it takes to get back.

Erlingmmedelknipser (I hope I got that right) Glad to here that you are happy with your set up. I have been using my Soo7 with 3 S lenses. Since I had all my lenses repaired due to plastic AF motors or whatever it was and the body replaced due to a misinterpretation in the mechanics I have had zero issues and many happy days out shooting with the S007. My kilt for Japan in November will be the S007 3 lenses and my iPhone X as a back up Neil
