stephan_w Posted August 2, 2017 Share #1 Posted August 2, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi there I have definitively more problems to get accurate focus with my S007 than with my old trusted S2. How can this be? Leica writes contrast AF for both cameras so how can contrast AF be better or less good ? (Btw. my SL focusses much better with the S to SL adapter than both S-cameras Some technical explanation for this? BTW any information about how long will it take to fix that? My S2 took over two months to get it's sensor replaced
Advertisement Posted August 2, 2017 Posted August 2, 2017 Hi stephan_w, Take a look here AF problems with the S007. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
eprom Posted August 2, 2017 Share #2 Posted August 2, 2017 I had the same experience. I own the 006 and love the trusty AF. My 006 was in Wetzlar for sensor replacement and I got a 007 for that time and I had major AF problems - couldn't believe and thought it was something else.
xiaubauu2009 Posted August 3, 2017 Share #3 Posted August 3, 2017 I thought they are Phase Detect AF?

FlashGordonPhotography Posted August 5, 2017 Share #5 Posted August 5, 2017 S cameras are phase detect. My 007 focuses with the same accuracy as my S2, just a bit faster. Gordon
stephan_w Posted August 6, 2017 Author Share #6 Posted August 6, 2017 S cameras are phase detect. My 007 focuses with the same accuracy as my S2, just a bit faster. Gordon thank you. when it is phase detect then there is a chance that the malfunction is due to a misaligned mirror. I will send it in

stephan_w Posted October 4, 2017 Author Share #8 Posted October 4, 2017 allow me to give a little update. So I got my S007 back after four weeks at Wetzlar. Unfortunately, the results are worse than before, from my 5 lenses that I have just here only one is spot on (the 180, which is the only one that never returned to Leica for service - a coincidence?). All other lenses have significant front-focus, some of them several cm (4-5 to be precise). Interestingly, those lenses focus fine on the SL and even manually focussed they are better focussed as with AF. My recently serviced S2 has similar problems, and my updated S35 is defective after the AF-motor-update. To say that I'm frustrated is an understatement.

Let Leica know in no uncertain terms. As for the SL focus.... The SL is CADF. And the focus is done off the sensor. So your focus HAS to be accurate. The S relies on off sensor PADF (sensor in bottom of camera and via a sub mirror. So the sensor plane actually doesn't have anything to do with AF. If you try your 007 in live view then the focus should be accurate as then the camera is using the sensor to focus. I'd send them all in (bodies and lenses) with instructions to get them right with urgent priority. Gordon
stephan_w Posted October 5, 2017 Author Share #10 Posted October 5, 2017 (edited) it gets even worse :-( When I try to reach the responsable manager at Wetzlar by phone (I had allready talked to him so he know the case), I'm redirected to Leica France (which is even worse than in Wetzlar). I'm so upset actually. Do Leica know that other brands build nice cameras too? Do they know what I can get from other for the cash I have put in the S-service? I'm so upset. Paul J Posted October 5, 2017 Share #11 Posted October 5, 2017 To put this in perspective. I just had to contact Hasselblad. I emailed the customer service address from their website. In 1 minute I received an email saying the support ticket had been raised and I would hear from them in 24 hours. They emailed me back in less than 5 minutes with a solution. THIS is customer service!!!!!

Let them see the lenses and the body so as to re-calibrate, fix and or replace. There is no excuse. Albert
Guest NEIL-D-WILLIAMS Posted October 5, 2017 Share #13 Posted October 5, 2017 I would take Gordons advise and send the whole %$%$%% package back and tell them to get it fixed. When I slipped an fell with STUPID crocks on with my SL around my neck. The Noctilux lens that was attached to the SL snapped off at the bayonet.......really pissed me that did. I took my Noctilux to the local Leica dealer in Kuala Lumpur. He sent it to Germany (I sent an email to Germany) who in return replied within 30 minutes saying they will be onto it as soon as the lens arrived. I received a email a week later saying that they have just got my lens out of customs and that a MR Herman Sntsial or something like that was going to be working on my lens for me...........a few days later I received another email saying my lens was finished and on its way back to KL with a tracking number A week later my lens was back in KL waiting for me with a new bayonet and new lens hood Fantastic customer service Neil
stephan_w Posted October 8, 2017 Author Share #14 Posted October 8, 2017 at least I got a personal contact with the customer service now and he told me that the camera was tested on "the big bench" where all new cameras are tested. He has no explanation yet but asked me to test it with live view. it turned out that the AF works fantastic in live view. (as it should it's contrast AF). bts has someone a cut through picture of the S?
