RC-SCL4 remote trigger wiring / modification

Good afternoon @ all,

Actually I was planning on modifying the cable in terms of removing the “switchbox” and soldering a 2,5 mm TRS connector to it in order to use the cable as a release cable with a Kessler Crane second shooter system. This uses tip (shutter) – Ring (focus) and sleeve (ground) to trigger the connected camera. https://support.kesslercrane.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/206745846-Second-Shooter-Camera-Trigger-Cable-Pinout

Basically it can be any camera since there are multiple cables available (except for Leica SL): https://support.kesslercrane.com/hc/en-us/articles/200531807-HOW-TO-Which-camera-control-cable-do-I-need-

Now I have the problem to find out, which color of the RC-SCL4 cable does what and needs to go where on the TRS connector.

Unfortunately I was not clever enough to recollect, which color had been soldered to which point of the brass contacts (before I de-soldered them).

Is there any way someone could assist or does someone have a picture of the inside of that “switchbox” with the cables still soldered?

Here is a photograph of the wiring.  I hope this helps.

First of all - a very big thanks to all for the replies!

I do have a question for elviskennedy though...

The manual of the remote trigger says the following: "Unlike the shutter button on the camera, the remote shutter button is a single step trigger, which means that when it is pressed, all activated functions of the camera are enabled immediately and the exposure is triggered"

"The remote trigger button can be locked for long term exposures. With the shutter button pressed, push the slide cover forward."

Shouldn't it in this case be Green (Tip) to Blue (Sleeve) for shutter release and Red not connected?

Awesome idea, didn't even think of going the diy route. I'm sorry if this has been answered (I've re-read the thread several times but didn't get it) - but what is the right way to connect it. I.e - which color cable from the remote to which connection on the plug (t,r,s).

Thanks so much!

Green & blue is autofocus

Blue & red is the shutter

To those into the operation of a 3-pole plug (to the extent standards exist...) & based on the above:

I assume the blue cable should be at the ground pin of the TRS-plug (but correct me if I am wrong!).

If so, where to put the red cable, at pin 1 (the tip pin) or pin 2 (the mid pin)?

(I can of course play and check, but I prefer not doing mistakes implying shipment to Wetzlar...).

Thanks!

I attached a 1/4 inch make connector for use with various remotes, including PocketWizard.  Works great.

Hi Elviskennedy

i have tried all combinations to use a pocket wizard to trigger a sl2 but no luck.

Pocket wizard cables only have 2 (red and green).

so you still recall how you connected the cables to make it work?

@Roderikvn  if it's to trigger the SL2 shutter, rather than mess around with wiring & risk frying something try this solution.

Pixel RC201/L1 Cable Remote Release

You will also need this adapter: 3.5mm Male to 2.5mm Female Audio Adapter Gold Plated Aux Aux Male Splitter with 3 Ring Bushes

It must be the 3 ring adapter or it won't work.

I purchased this remote & it works on both my SL2 & SL-2S. It's almost identical to the Leica branded remote which costs 10x as much 😡.

The difference is that it comes with a 2.5mm Male jack so you need the 2.5mm Female  to 3.5mm Male 3 ring adapter. It triggers focus as well as the shutter.

Thanks Michali

But I would need a way to trigger a second camera. So normally I use a pocket wizard that triggers a flash and a second remote camera at the same time.

(I will be testing these 2 camera's as I normally use nikons for sports)

attaced a photo to show you the idea. I use one sl2s for myself with a flash and then have a SL2 remotely.
