A few more from yesterday evening's trip to Barnack Hills & Holes nature reserve near Stamford, Lincs. UK but actually on the Cambridgeshire border. … it's a former limestone quarry and hundreds of years ago provided the Barnack limestone to build Peterborough Cathedral.

Several large file size pics so will post individually and add titles when all posted

One member of our party was Dr Stuart Ball a professional entomologist and co-author of British Hoverflies - A Field Guide. Stuart was very busy photographing these tiny fruit flies Tephritis bandanae  … which I was unfamiliar with until Stuart explained the larvae fed on the burdoch plant ... judging by the numbers there was a recent hatch. Very difficult to photograph because they seldom stay still for more than a few seconds - thus impossible to stack.

This was the first time in many years I've tried close-up photography 'in the field' . The Leica APO Macro Elmarit 100mm R lens couples well with the Sony A7SII and makes working at high ISO (e.g. ISO 5000) feasible and practical.

Best wishes
