1926 Rolls Royce Phantom I Brougham De Ville by coachbuilder Charles Clark & Sons … ordered new by Clarence W Gasque for his wife Maude (Woolworth heiress), the car is known as the 'Phantom of Love' and has a Louis XVI style rear interior (which unfortunately I could not photograph).

Sold by Bonhams December 2016 for £561,500

Photographed at recent Rolls Royce Enthusiasts Club Annual Rally Burghley House Stamford in the Vintage & Prestige Co.'s marquee.

1926 Rolls Royce Phantom I Brougham De Ville front view … note the chauffeur had to make do with a single windscreen wiper which barely sweeps the top half of the screen.

All photos taken with Leica R 19mm Mk II / Sony A7SII … other 'longer' R wide-angle  lenses are not quite wide enough for comfortable use when photographing large cars in marquees.

Best wishes

And this is Richard Biddulph, the Vintage and Prestige Classic Car Co. Director in his very smart 'event attire' … but this portrait was taken last year.

I wonder what the future holds in store for classic cars assuming that in 25 years time we'll likely be driving electrically powered vehicles and demand for petrol / diesel fuel will likely be much reduced / minimal compared to today? Currently, budget price classic car enthusiasts have no problems affording fuel and a classic car can be an everyday use vehicle … but if petrol prices increase dramatically their running costa / affordability could make them uneconomical to own and use regularly.

Hello Dunk,

Don't worry. There will be petrol/diesel available in the same store on the corner where you go to buy film for your M3.

Nice photos, by the way.

Best Regards,

Michael
