jplomley Posted July 21, 2017 Share #1 Posted July 21, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have an MM that rarely sees the light of day since getting the SL. Love being able to nail focus every time with the SL, see the effect of DOF in the EVF, achieve 100% exposure hit rate etc etc. I find it very difficult to go back to the M body when the M glass is just so good on the SL. I'm now thinking of selling the MM. Anyone else abandoned M bodies since shooting the SL but keeping the M glass?
Advertisement Posted July 21, 2017 Posted July 21, 2017 Hi jplomley, Take a look here How many have sold their M's after a period of using the SL?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Ken Abrahams Posted July 21, 2017 Share #2 Posted July 21, 2017 Hi Jeff I still love my MM and think the two cameras (SL) compliment each other so well. I like the rangefinder experience and switching cameras depending on how I feel like shooting.
FlashGordonPhotography Posted July 21, 2017 Share #3 Posted July 21, 2017 Bought my M10 after my SL's. Use the Sl's way more but still love the M10. Gordon
sillbeers15 Posted July 21, 2017 Share #4 Posted July 21, 2017 Technically, the SL has all the bells & whistles to replace the M camera. Emotionally, the M10 still has a place in my heart. So for me, I keep both going forward.
maqroll Posted July 21, 2017 Share #5 Posted July 21, 2017 Switched from M240 to SL last december; I kept lenses and bought adapters. No regrets.
LocalHero1953 Posted July 21, 2017 Share #6 Posted July 21, 2017 (edited) No - I just use them for different things. The M for anything requiring carrying a camera around. The SL+zooms for one location and the need for fast switching between FLs and for taking focusing out of the list of things to think about. OIS brings benefits as well, but is not quite so important in deciding which to use. Without the zooms, I doubt I'd have bought the SL. thighslapper Posted July 21, 2017 Share #7 Posted July 21, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Haven't used my Monochrom and M240 for over a year ....... Like many I seem to hang onto them more for sentimental reasons rather than logic and economics. They are wonderful to handle ..... almost perfect in size and weight ...... but I just take far better photos with the SL with a miniscule technical failure rate in comparison. There is always a compromise and balance to achieved between equipment process and results ...... and for the time being the SL wins. I really should sell the M's and save the cash to invest in forthcoming SL lenses .... but I have a real attachment to the Monochrom, even though it has not been used a great deal .....
FMB Posted July 21, 2017 Share #8 Posted July 21, 2017 The 240, and in my case M 10, are cameras for not to go without, to wait for images unexpected that one could find out, are like a multi-tool to solve any situation. SL is better for images that one would think should be exist, or knows where to find out them, prepared for big game with specialized munition. Summing up: at least both. panoreserve Posted July 21, 2017 Share #9 Posted July 21, 2017 I have sold all my digital M cameras (not lenses) and since then I never looked back. For me, the SL-System is the tool that fulfills all my needs relating to IQ, accuracy and speed - in other words: overall performance. Not to forget: finally no more calibration issues due to the sensor-based focussing. That's a truly "redemptive" experience
ramarren Posted July 21, 2017 Share #10 Posted July 21, 2017 I stopped using my M-P after I bought the SL, but replaced it with the M-D model. It's a perfect complement to the SL for when I want to eschew all but the basics, and when I want a more compact, lighter weight camera to carry. There's a place for both ends of the spectrum in my kit.

Very different tools really. Richard
Einst_Stein Posted July 21, 2017 Share #12 Posted July 21, 2017 Found M9 sensor corrosion, trade up to SL. Will use M lenses on SL. No plan to buy SL zoom yet. Am considering R 80-200mm f4. Curious if Minolta 80-200mm f2.8 (TBA) or Hasselblad V 180mm F4 (in my bag) a temporary substitution for SL
ModernMan Posted July 21, 2017 Share #13 Posted July 21, 2017 Kept all my M glass, and use it regularly with the SL. Using the M bodies went from sometimes to seldom to never. The SL zooms are wonderful, but help one appreciate the compactness of the M primes. And the Mandler lenses still deliver their qualities on SL.

steveBK Posted July 22, 2017 Share #15 Posted July 22, 2017 Seriously debating SL vs M10. Had the M8, then the M240. Got rid of it earlier this year and shooting film (M5) again. I've been thinking more along the lines of "Maybe M is best experienced in film, and if you are going to shoot digital the EVF is the logical conclusion." david strachan Posted July 22, 2017 Share #16 Posted July 22, 2017 I've looked and tried the SL. The veiwfinder and autofocus are gorgeous...absolutely. But I'm an enthusiast hacker ...and happy with my M-P (240), and M8's and M6 and IIIc (f conv)... If I want a fully auto camera... use my Fuji XE1...with its "perfect" lenses...APS-C size is fine for me. It's got a nice form, and I can still use all my Leica and Canon lenses, with the EV. At the moment I'm using my Barnack...such a lovely camera...with a 1952 collapsible Summicron. ...
HeinzX Posted July 22, 2017 Share #17 Posted July 22, 2017 I have ssold my M 24ß together with the glass when I bought the SL. But I regret to have sold the 18 mm SEM, I would not sell it a second time.
AlanJW Posted July 22, 2017 Share #18 Posted July 22, 2017 There are times when the SL is better and times when a rangefinder is preferable, so I have an M10 in addition to SL. The new tiny 28mm Summaron spends a lot of time on the M10. I mainly use M lenses on both but there are times when autofocus really helps, there are times when precise framing is better, etc. If I could have only one, I would have a hard time selecting, but would probably go with the SL for its flexibility, especially with longer lenses.
Marac Posted July 22, 2017 Share #19 Posted July 22, 2017 I sold my M lenses namely 24 asph/35 summarit/75 summarit/90 summarit traded them for the 24-90 SL lens, this is due mainly for my being skint and unable to finance the SL lens otherwise I may of kept hold of my M lenses, however the SL 24-90 is the total focal sum of the 4 M lenses, blah bah blah. I do still have an M8 that is being repaired by Advanced Camera Systems in the UK after the coating on the sensor became damaged, I am debating weather to have it converted to IR or they said they can replace the sensor glass with a normal one which would mean absolutely no IR leaking and the purple black jackets in summertime would actually be total black like the M240. I kept my 28mm Elmarit-M and also my Summilux 50mm (pre asph) mainly for the M8 but they obviously give me a nice range for the SL too when I don't feel like weight lifting. No regrets though, the SL lens, albeit large and heavy, is excellent. I have it set to f4.0 99% of the time.
