m10 sensor look

Really, the "M10 sensor 'look'" can be  - anything you want it to be. It has enormous dynamic range - but has a default (and thus adjustable in post-processing) contrast curve applied that is intended, I'm sure, to make the default images "pop" like an M9.

See image in this post - same M10 image, straight from the camera (contrasty/saturated like slide film or M9) - and then opened up in Adobe Camera Raw using the "shadows" slider (more like color neg or M240 default).

Either one of those very different looks can be "the M10 look" - depending on what you do with all the DR available. ;)

Hi, I'm interested in learning more about how Leica embeds the profile? Is this something that the user can access/view? What format do they use and what does the profile look like?

Probably a .DCP file embedded in the DNG. It is not really possible, unless you are an IT buff*, to read the lines of such a file.  It is a TIFF-like file with a different header.

The way to see what it does is to select "embedded profile" in your raw developer.

Agreed, as far as 'look' goes we're not in M9 CCD territory anymore. It's a CMOS, and they all look very similar. Technically, it's finally no longer much worse than my A7R2's.

You can make it look like anything you want. Out of the camera, it just looks like almost any other CMOS (Canonikon, Sony...).

Raw files are neutral with. Huge dynamic range. I find the out of camera raw files, just like with the Sony A7r2, to be flat ooc and easy to manipulate in post. Lots of latitude. The end result files look amazing to me, better then the M9 with more depth. Certainly you can get the M9 look if you like.

The M10 seems to be a mature tool and to get the most out of it some basic post processing knowledge is helpful.

Much different. More film like but with Sony like dynamic range..sorry for comparing it to Sony but the 7R & 7S sensors have 14 stops of Dynamic range. I dont miss them anymore. For whatever reason i like the B+W from the M240 much more than the M10. May be because its more gimmicky. :p

The M10 out of camera Black and white JPG is quite good with contrast set high and sharpening set to low.

Can anyone describe the look they are getting with the m10 sensor?

ex. M9 had a contrasty film like look?

how is the m10 look?

My favorite lens is the 35mm Cron and used it 99% of the time on the M240. I now have that same lens on the M10 and I love the "Look" of images on the M10 more. I get more of the "3D" effect on my M10 than I did on the 240. Colors are more saturated and the dynamic range is noticeably better on the M10.
