Hi

The Macro Adapter M is designed to fit the Macro 90... also in the way that it works from macro to infinity (when collapsed as I understand it). Then my question came to mind; how would the functionality be with my collapsible Elmar-M... also concerning working to infinity?

Thanks for all feedback!

Hi and thanks!

Yes, it is stated that this adapter will fit with all lenses. My wondering, however, was if the collapsible feature of the macro 90 makes it work all the way from closest macro to infinity... with the adapter mounted (I have never seen the 90 macro in play with the adapter...). And if so, could ¨some luck¨ imply that this could be the case also for the collapsible 50 Elmar-M. But I guess my thinking is a bit too far fetched... ;-)...

See this article by Jono Slack.  The answer to your first question is yes. As to how the 50 Elmar behaves, I don't know. For it to work exactly as you describe, the difference in length between collapsed and extended would have to be identical to the 90. My guess is the 50 would focus past infinity due to the shorter excursion of a 50mm lens vs a 90.

Hi again and thanks

I am very interested in the article by Jono Slack. But no link in your reply...

PS: and past infinity I guess is OK... ;-)

Yes, agreed. I no longer have the 50 collapsible but I'm pretty sure it doesn't extend to the same degree as the 90 Macro Elmar-M.

OUFRO works with Elmar 50mm, although you have to pull the lens out a little to focus to infinity. It's a bit fiddly to use but does give you the ability to close focus as well as to infinity.

I confirm... and btw same is for the Summicron 50 collapsible (which makes the set even more "flexible" than the Summicron DR... :) ) ; but I can assure also that the real usefulness of such a set, with EVF mandatory, is quite questionable... on a Leica, a 50mm at normal distances is the reign of rangefinder...

I own both, the old macro adapter with "glasses" and the new extensible macro adapter. Both work with any Leica lenses. For both the electronic viewfinder is indispensable in my humble opinion. Both do not focus to infinity.

You mean with other lenses than the 90/4 macro i guess. To avoid possible misunderstandings, the current macro adapter can focus the 90/4 macro at infinity. Same with the previous adapter with goggles i suspect but i have not tried it at infinity.

You don't get it. Just collapse the lens all the way. Works fine, with the current adapter at least. Didn't try with the previous one but i suspect it works the same..

Thank you! I didn't get it indeed - fully collapsed i can focus to infinity with the macro adapter. Holy cow, glad you told me! Since the 90/4 cannot be fixed in collapsed position you need to be extra careful, though

I think the latest revised version of this lens can be locked in the collapsed position to facilitate being used with the non-goggled adaptor as a regular lens (albeit non-RF coupled).
