Theodor Heinrichsohn Posted July 5, 2017 Share #1 Posted July 5, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have looked through the various posts in the Film Forum but find no mention of SPUR developers and films. Go to SPUR Photochemie GbR on the internet and look up the company which is Dr. Heidrich and Schain GbR in 52379 Langenwehe, Germany. I became interested in their developers for various copying films years ago and their latest product is SPUR DSX 200. The founder and manager, Dipl. Ing. Heribert Schain has developed several interesting developers for copying films in the past, which I have used with excellent results after Kodak Tech Pan died and my freezer yielded no more frozen films. Starting in the 1960ties I have been using slow Kodak panchromatic films and later practically only Tech Pan developed in Neofin DOKU until the film ran out. After giving up enlarging at home because of problems with environmentally responsible disposal of chemicals and above all the waste water, I have only developed films myself old Nikor tanks and disposed of the used liquids at the prescribed gathering place. I am now investigating scanners that are capable of scanning 35mm, 6x9 cm and 4x5 inch negs. To make it absolutely clear: I have no commercial connection whatsoever to SPUR. However, I have visited Mr Schain several time and intend to drive there to purchase films and developers for my coming trip. 35mm and 120 films are available. I plan to use the 120 in either the Hasselblad or my Linhof 6x17. The trusty Leica M 3 and the M7 will do for 35mm. I might also take the M240 with the Tri Elmars if I can manage the weight and the bulk.I used to carry Linhof and Hasselblad + lenses and also Leicas + lenses, but those days are over and I am now agonizing about the ideal (for me) selection of cameras and lenses. All this for a trip to Shanghai, Tokyo and above all Kyoto in September. My favorite subjects are the gardens of Kyoto, of which I have hundreds if not thousands of b&w pictures and Kodachrome slides. In my experience, the SPUR film/developer combinations I have used are at least equal, if not superior to Tech Pan and Neofin Doku. The latest types are said to be superior and also have higher ISO than the combinations I used. Teddy
Advertisement Posted July 5, 2017 Posted July 5, 2017 Hi Theodor Heinrichsohn, Take a look here Spur Films. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Michael Hiles Posted July 5, 2017 Share #2 Posted July 5, 2017 I have been tempted to try Spur's Acurol or their other "normal" developers, but I have not done so yet. Erwin Puts seems to like their products, and he seems to be trustworthy. Also the results (at least as shown on their web site) look excellent. My suspicion is that Delta 400 or 100 in their developers would be really quite good. An issue is that their products are not widely distributed, as far as I can tell. I certainly cannot drive to a store where they are available, or have been heard of. In the mean time, Ilford XP2 continues to produce wonderful results. As far as learned from the technical pamphlets SPUR publishes on the Internet, SPUR has developers that can be used with excellent results on a number of films. Maybe try to get this info from the website on the internet. I am only interested in the high resolution copy films developed in SPUR developers, as that is what I have had experience with.
