tonyniev Posted July 2, 2017 Share #1 Posted July 2, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have been receiving plenty of nformation from this forum, form quetsions asked before and my own, thanks. I have two questions: 1. Off Camera flash: I have wireless flash controllers a) the cheap yongnuo that controlss two Canon speedlites and another one to control my Alien Bee strobes. Can I safely use these on the M10. 2. On Camera flash: I know that the Leica branded Nissim 40 flash will do ttl, my question is can I safely use my small Sony flash HVL F20M for on camera manual shooting, this is a very small handy flash. Can also mount the Canon 430 EX II and 560 EX II. Thanks
Advertisement Posted July 2, 2017 Posted July 2, 2017 Hi tonyniev, Take a look here M10 hot shoe, on camera and off camera flash and wireless controllers. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
tonyniev Posted July 6, 2017 Author Share #2 Posted July 6, 2017 The Canon flashes (speedlites) work with no issues, manual settings, the Sony will not work.
brill64 Posted July 6, 2017 Share #3 Posted July 6, 2017 The Sony flash has its own generic set of electronic contacts (for Sony cameras only) which are different from the standard Leica hotshoe so it will not work.
Tobers Posted July 6, 2017 Share #4 Posted July 6, 2017 Wireless flash controllers will be fine (assuming they work off the central pin on the hotshoe). I use Pocket Wizards with my M10 no problem.
FlashGordonPhotography Posted July 6, 2017 Share #5 Posted July 6, 2017 The Sony flash has its own generic set of electronic contacts (for Sony cameras only) which are different from the standard Leica hotshoe so it will not work. This is incorrect. The TTL functions won't work, obviously but Sony flashes (and cameras) still have a normal centre pin for manual triggering. The flash will fire in manual mode, just fine. tonyniev Posted July 6, 2017 Author Share #6 Posted July 6, 2017 (edited) it has a multi interface hot shoe, I tried and it would not flash...aside from the Leica branded SF 40 are there other brands that will work Leica TTL? The SF 40 is large for travel use. That is my interest in using the small Sony F20. Thanks to all. Edited July 6, 2017 by tonyniev

Gordon It should also work in the A mode of the flash - autothyrister which I find often better than TTL. Edited July 6, 2017 by pico
brill64 Posted July 7, 2017 Share #8 Posted July 7, 2017 I think only the SF24D & the SF26, which are both very compact units, will work with Leica TTL. The SF24D can also be used in auto & manual modes, which Pico rightly says, often works better than TTL. The SF26 is TTL only.

I do not own the F20. Gordon
orc999 Posted July 7, 2017 Share #10 Posted July 7, 2017 I have sf24 and sf26, both fire fine on the m7 but not on the m10 and the monochrom. What could be wrong? if i slide them on, thez fire, but not when i release the shutter.
tonyniev Posted July 23, 2017 Author Share #11 Posted July 23, 2017 To close this topic, The Sony definitely will not work, the wireless yongyou wporks, the Canon speedlite worked, have not tested my Alien Bee remoter trigger; but need to buy the Leica branded Nissim, make shift set up will be too bulky with the Canon speedlites. using a simple flash bracket :-(
