sinjun Posted June 29, 2017 Share #1 Posted June 29, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've sent my M9 in for sensor replacement and have been offered a deal on a la carte leather which I'm tempted by. Can anyone comment on durability / feel relative to the normal covering? Also, I was considering ostrich print chestnut brown or coffee. Does anyone have any photos of either of these with sliver chrome? I know you can get an impression with the configurator but it's not quite the same as seeing a photo.... Advertisement Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 Hi sinjun, Take a look here A la carte leather?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Rus Posted June 29, 2017 Share #2 Posted June 29, 2017 (edited) I remember there is a Special edition M9 with silver chrome top and bottom plates and brown ostrich skin cover. I wonder how different an overall effect will be with the same skin on the steel grey paint M9. https://www.freshnessmag.com/.image/t_share/MTM2ODM2MTM0NjgwNDcxMTM1/leica-m9-limited-edition---silver-chrome--ostrich-leather--available-now---0.jpg Edited June 29, 2017 by Rus
Archiver Posted June 30, 2017 Share #3 Posted June 30, 2017 (edited) That silver and ostrich M9 was made for Neiman Marcus in America. It came with the silver Summicron 35 and a matching ostrich strap. Not sure how many were made. Buying that camera also gave you a camera tutorial with someone presumably knowledgeable enough to show you the unique features of the M9. It seemed extravagant, but it was the only way to get a silver chrome M9 with red dot. Edited June 30, 2017 by Archiver
sinjun Posted June 30, 2017 Author Share #4 Posted June 30, 2017 Thanks both. Was also considering an M9-P silver chrome upgrade without sapphire screen at same time. Looks nice but maybe a bit showy? Coffee would perhaps be more understated.
elmaury Posted June 30, 2017 Share #5 Posted June 30, 2017 Sinjun - have you inquired as to the estimated cost of the silver chrome upgrade without the sapphire screen? I emailed Leica last week but haven't received a reply yet.

I had this option and went for Blue leather. I was pleasantly suprised how different it feels - really nice.

sinjun Posted June 30, 2017 Author Share #8 Posted June 30, 2017 Sinjun - have you inquired as to the estimated cost of the silver chrome upgrade without the sapphire screen? I emailed Leica last week but haven't received a reply yet. Yes - they have quoted about 800 Euros for the upgrade without sapphire, and 100 euros for leather. Still wondering whether it is a bit shallow to spend this much for an essentially superficial upgrade, but my M9 is a bit worn...
IkarusJohn Posted June 30, 2017 Share #9 Posted June 30, 2017 My silver chrome Monochrom v1 is getting the chestnut ostriche pattern leather. I think it looks fantastic, but I'm paying way more than you ...
Woolly Posted July 13, 2017 Share #10 Posted July 13, 2017 Just like mine returned last month. I also opted for the leather as the m9p covering is not available now. Welcome, dear visitor! The confirmation for repair went through long ago.As for the leather, we will have to take it off in order to open up the cameras housing. The leather can´t be used afterwards, as the leather will shrink a little and will not fit anymore. In this case, we would cover the camera with the regular leatherette, or we could cover it with a leather from our á la carte program with additional costs of 100 € (special price due to the sensor corrosion). What should we do here, use the regular leatherette or should we fit a á la carte leather?
