new version of the Q soon?

Recommended Posts

The Q is a mature and reliable camera, greatly appreciated by most owners around the world. Most who yearn for an updated version strongly desire an alternative focal length lens, even a zoom lens. Meanwhile the Q continues to do a brilliant job and would serve you well. Buy one and enjoy it.

In reality there is very little that could be updated on this camera if you're keeping the 28mm lens. All I really think it needs is proper weather-sealing and then you would have the perfect camera. So apart from some firmware updates I see little that could be updated

agree with all of the above ..... there is always the chance of a Q with a different lens, like a 50 for example, but the sensor is so good you could crop to the 50 and it wouldn't matter much as long as the subject is in the center of your frame.

They still can't keep these in stock for long anywhere, so I doubt Leica is in a hurry to release an update. B&H used to always have the titanium version in stock, but they must have finally sold them off, too. The only thing that would hurt Q resale would be one with interchangeable lenses, but anything else will only add to sales. I'd love a Q with a zoom lens – especially with a smaller version of the 24-90 for the SL.

a new T is coming with rumored build in EVF, maybe wait for that before getting a Q, I find Q is a little too large and heavy for everyday carry, it is over 100g heavier than the Sony RX

The T is wonderful (especially at its price) but the Q is full frame.

To many this is inconsequential but to those making large prints for sale and/or those needing to crop closely, the full frame sensor is necessary.

The T can have an adapter for the M lenses -- WOW!  I love M glass.  But I will never sell my Q.

That being said, a Q with an M adapter would be perfect for my needs. I did not like the SL with M adapter, I prefer the Q interface.

I'm just not a rangefinder guy but I am known to passionately use "slow hands with fast glass" -- give me a Q with Noctilux 50mm...

but I'll still keep my Q with its 28mm Summilux!

If anyone is interested both Herrington's and PopFlash have both Leica Q versions in stock for the same price as B&H and Adorama.

I think people asking for longer lenses forget how large and heavy these would be.

That is an excellent point. I wouldn't mind a future version that was a Summicron longer lens so is less weight. But not likely to happen. If the Q got heavier, wouldn't buy.

I'm all set to get a Q this week and wether or not a new one will be released won't really affect my decision but just out of curiosity, does anyone know of any news of a new Q being released?

Get your Q, its near perfect as it is right now and there is no need for a new version of it (at least with the 28mm lens).

I should think that an interchangeable lens Q would cut deeply into the sales of Leica M cameras, but it is possible that Leica wants to cultivate photographers who desire autofocus. We shall see.

I am an RX1 owner, and I can tell you that the Q's larger size and weight are barely noticeable.  It is a far superior camera in almost every way, as long as one is comfortable with the 28mm focal length. It took me a while to get used to it, but I am definitely coming to appreciate the look.
