pikovsg Posted June 26, 2017 Share #1 Posted June 26, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Seems like Q's depth of field blurs a lot less than a Summilux on the Ms. Have any of you compared the amount of background blurring on both lenses? Advertisement Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 Hi pikovsg, Take a look here Bokeh - Q Summilux vs. M Summilux. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Sandokan Posted June 26, 2017 Share #2 Posted June 26, 2017 Well, what is the maximum aperture on the Q? And which Summilux did you compare it to? Or did you compare them both at the same apertures?

Sandokan Posted June 26, 2017 Share #4 Posted June 26, 2017 That is strange. Can you post the photos? Mathematically the fall off of focus should be identical. But of course with some Nikon lenses having defocus-control, that is also a factor of the optical configuration of the lens elements. viramati Posted June 26, 2017 Share #5 Posted June 26, 2017 Some say the Q lens is actually nearer to 25mm and then corrected (I have no idea if this is really true) so that may have something to do with it. Personally I love the way the Q renders wide-open and it gives me plenty of subject separation
frame-it Posted June 26, 2017 Share #6 Posted June 26, 2017 does the Q actually work at f1.7 in closeups ? or switch to f3++ ? like the X113? I would say, if there is one place where you may find this kind of comparison, it'd be DPReview? At least, that's where I found an actual comparison between my gear and the Q when I had to make choices at the time... H.
matlep Posted June 26, 2017 Share #8 Posted June 26, 2017 does the Q actually work at f1.7 in closeups ? or switch to f3++ ? like the X113? Close ups (e.g minimum focus distance) work at 1.7, but if you switch to Macro mode the aperture is limited to f 2.8.

i-Leica Posted June 26, 2017 Share #11 Posted June 26, 2017 That's why the Summilux 28mm is so desired, 28 Crown can not give the same
Leica Guy Posted June 26, 2017 Share #12 Posted June 26, 2017 I never noticed that! I did not know that either. Thanks. I love learning new little things about the Q.
microview Posted June 26, 2017 Share #13 Posted June 26, 2017 if you switch to Macro mode the aperture is limited to f 2.8. Thanks. I had forgotten that.
