northernlights Posted June 25, 2017 Share #1 Posted June 25, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all, I was using the 35 Summarit asph f2.4 6-bit coded M via M to L adaptor on the newly purchased Leica T (2 days ago). I noticed the aperture was not changing on the T as I changed aperture on lens on aperture priority mode. TTL is definitely working as shots are exposed correctly and histogram and all other stuff is working. I have dismounted both the adaptor and the lens off the camera body and mounting them again but to no avail. The focus assist magnification works so the original adaptor works in this respect. Is there a problem? I am already updated on the latest FW1.6.1. Thanks.
Advertisement Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 Hi northernlights, Take a look here Leica M to L adaptor does not register 35 Summarit Asph f3.4 coded. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
northernlights Posted June 25, 2017 Author Share #2 Posted June 25, 2017 The M240 automatically captures the 35 Summarit asph f2.4 6-bit coding
pop Posted June 25, 2017 Share #3 Posted June 25, 2017 The lens can not transmit the aperture value currently set to the camera. It can not do so on the M body, either. Hence, the T will not show the value you dialled. However, it will correctly measure the amount of light entering through the lens, so the exposure of the frame will be correct. But my adaptor is the original Leica M-L adaptor.
pop Posted June 25, 2017 Share #5 Posted June 25, 2017 Quite, but the M lens does not transmit that information, not to any body, not even the M body. There is no connection between the lens and the body which can pass that information.
JPP1 Posted June 25, 2017 Share #6 Posted June 25, 2017 M lenses have absolutely no way to transmit the current aperture. However, based on the 6-bit code, the T will show the maximum aperture for your lens. Jean-Pierre
northernlights Posted June 25, 2017 Author Share #7 Posted June 25, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks Philipp and Jean-Pierre, I was under the impression that my 6 bit M lenses allowed EXIF files in all shots made by the M240. And hence, using an original Leica M-L adaptor would allow the same EXIF info on Leica T shots.
pop Posted June 25, 2017 Share #8 Posted June 25, 2017 The M guesses the aperture set on the lens. It has a small light sensor in front of the body and compares the light that passes through the lens with the light registered by the sensor. It usually guesses quite right, but not always. The T does not have that sensor in front of the body.

Philipp, can I clarify that when I use my 35 Summarit Asph f2.4 which is 6 bit coded with the Leica original M-L adaptor (yes $$), that: 1) I will not get aperture readings in camera when I adjust aperture. 2) I will not get EXIF data on my shots with this combo like I got from my M240 that I sold off. Thanks. If both (1) and (2) are affirmative, means I just spent $$ to get an adaptor that supports focus aid. Though important and great but didn't get more than that over say a Novoflex, fotodiox etc, which probably cost less, maybe much less.
pop Posted June 26, 2017 Share #10 Posted June 26, 2017 That's correct.
frame-it Posted June 26, 2017 Share #11 Posted June 26, 2017 yep...but that focus aid helps a lot with manual M/R lenses Philipp, can I clarify that when I use my 35 Summarit Asph f2.4 which is 6 bit coded with the Leica original M-L adaptor (yes $$), that: 1) I will not get aperture readings in camera when I adjust aperture. 2) I will not get EXIF data on my shots with this combo like I got from my M240 that I sold off. JPP1 Posted June 26, 2017 Share #12 Posted June 26, 2017 2) I will not get EXIF data on my shots with this combo like I got from my M240 that I sold off. And, by the way, this is no longer available on the M10.
