Q with Digiscope Leica Televid APO

Recommended Posts

I don't have the Leica scope, but a Swiarowski 'equivalent', and I bought the Leica adapter.

What can I say. There are a couple of threads here (search "digiscopy")

The adapter must replace the sunshield, so if like me you do use the latter you need to unscrew, then screw, a not-exactly-instant operation.

Then you have to fix the adapter on the scope, which you do by rotating the little screw.

Then you enter 'birding mode' on the Q, which basically offers a way to zoom with the back buttons instead of disengaging the autofocus, which is nice.

Then you run focus and zoom from the scope.

In spite of what I said, if you walk with the Q 'all preset', you can be reasonably fast to prepare a pic (don't forget you'll need at least a monopod in addition to the setup -additionally, a rigid tripod and remote control from the Q app being much efficient)

Now we enter the point of compatibility with the scope. On my Siarowski, the field of view is not perfectly adapted to the Q, so my pictures have 'rounded edges', but there are so many pixels that this doesn't bother me indeed. (what is important is the Swia has a very good color rendition even on the edges). Maybe the Leica scope will have a better-adapted field of view.

I have published some pictures taken this way, if you are interested please ask (I have to find back where exactly they are)

Digiscoping definitely is cool. Now it is not the same as a very large (and costly) telephoto lens on a big camera. But, it weights ten times less in your backpack -and you also can use the scope separately, instantly ;-)

This is very interesting. I'd love to see a few images taken this way and a photo of your camera mounted to the Q. I'm not familiar with the adapter. Which one are you using? I also have a Swarovski spotting scope. Thanks.

I use the Leica adapter, the one here (on the french Leica site)
