JohnnySeven Posted June 18, 2017 Author Share #3 Posted June 18, 2017 (edited) Hi David. There's lots of info about tube audio. I grew up in recording studios and find that modern solid state gear just doesn't hit the spot, even the very expensive stuff. A nice little tube amp is a must. Im such a stickler that i use NOS tubes. The new Russian and Made in China tubes are wonky and inconsistent. I listen to vinyl, CD's, Reel to Reel and yes the dreaded MP3's. A funny little piece of trivia, those JAN 6550 power tubes in the picture are from fly by wire servo amps in B52 bombers and other cold war planes. Here's some good reading on the tube subject: http://kenrockwell.com/audio/why-tubes-sound-better.htm Edited June 18, 2017 by JohnnySeven

Enjoy your music.. it does matter, when you are really listening. Cheers...

JohnnySeven Posted June 18, 2017 Author Share #7 Posted June 18, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Jonny , tubes with vinyl ? Simplified electronic circuits and musical listening , better than Mosfet transistors What tubes ? looks like 6550 Henry Yup those are JAN 6550's from the 60's. Iv actually swapped them out for a set of NOS Mullard KT66's. They don't sound as "hard" as the 6550's. Also the 6550's run very hot and really heat up the output transformer. Whenever i listen to a Mosfet amp I feel like its missing some basic warmth and speed in the mids. Im old and dont listen loud and I don't want crazy bottom end I just want the music to sound "right".
