Jim Radcliffe Posted June 17, 2017 Share #1 Posted June 17, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) The Q arrived yesterday. The AF is quite amazing and the EVF is very good, better than my Fuji X-T1 for sure. I am putting it through a series of tests which probably only relate to me but there is one thing that has me stumped. I like to shoot B&W but with RAW+JPG. It appears that the Q will not allow you shoot this way: That is to say with the JPG in B&W and DNG with full color data AND, most important of all, what you view while in this mode is B&W in the EVF and the back screen monitor. To make sure you understand my question. Is there a way for the Q to shoot RAW+JPG and display only B&W in the EVF and LCD while shooting? This is extremely important to me and could be a deal breaker. Jim Radcliffe

surfmanjoe Posted June 17, 2017 Share #2 Posted June 17, 2017 (edited) Here is how. in menu, you move saturation to 0 in JPG settings. don't have camera with me now, the menu name/description could not be accurate. sorry for that. hopefully it helps. Jim Radcliffe Posted June 17, 2017 Author Share #3 Posted June 17, 2017 Did that and it works for JPG only. Once you set the camera to DNG+JPG the EVF and LCD only show full color and your JPG is also in color, not B&W. I hope I am doing something wrong, otherwise the camera will be returned. surfmanjoe Posted June 17, 2017 Share #4 Posted June 17, 2017 Did that and it works for JPG only. I hope I am doing something wrong, otherwise the camera will be returned. if my memory serves me right, once you set JPG saturation to B/W, you will see either EVF or LCD in B/W too. I will check night when I get home.
low325 Posted June 17, 2017 Share #5 Posted June 17, 2017 I could be misunderstanding but I do his all the time. Shoot in raw + jpg and the evf and LCD are BW. Set the jpg to monochrome I believe.
Big T Posted June 17, 2017 Share #6 Posted June 17, 2017 Hope this is what your looking for: Go to the menu > JPG Settings > Saturation > Monochrome This will make JPGs B&W (DNG still colour) and LCD and EVF will show B&W.
Jim Radcliffe Posted June 17, 2017 Author Share #7 Posted June 17, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Strange. I just tried these steps again with the same result. The camera firmware is the latest. I've read through the manual and it seems I am following the correct steps.
Jim Radcliffe Posted June 17, 2017 Author Share #8 Posted June 17, 2017 Problem Solved! I did a total camera reset and followed the steps to set up monochrome shooting. Now the EVF and the LCD are displaying in Monochrome. Thanks for all the suggestions. My Saturday morning just got a lot better. Jim
Guest Posted June 26, 2017 Share #9 Posted June 26, 2017 Jim Seems like a very long time since you were a Leica shooter. I remember a day at the Grapevine Antique Railroad ... and you passion for singularly focused cameras. Glad to see your interest in the Q. Had one ... moved on and should have another by the end of the week. Hope to see BoxedLight with a Q page .... Regards ... stay cool this summer.
