Sandokan Posted June 15, 2017 Share #8 Posted June 15, 2017 Carrying cameras on you while riding .... ehmmm, let me think of what might go wrong? there is at least one thread on that topic and the damage done. And on a mountain bike, going down a fast and tricky trail? I would get panniers on the bike and put heavy, solid, sharp objects in that and not around my body. But, maybe I am risk adverse or just clumsy ... I have come off quite a few times.

Ravi I'm 60 years old at the end of the year, I ride a mountain bike 80% of the time on tarmac drive, the rest is very easy going off road and I take my time. I really couldn't give a sh!t about damaging the camera, I'm more conscious of not hurting myself so I take it easy :) As for the bag, I will also get the 10lt version (I currently have the 5 lt model) so that I can put my compact tripod in it for my trip to Japan in along with the breeze block Noctilux 0.95............I might leave that lump at home too :(
Jeff S Posted June 16, 2017 Share #10 Posted June 16, 2017 . I really couldn't give a sh!t about damaging the camera, I'm more conscious of not hurting myself so I take it easy :) ( He was concerned about your body, not the camera. I never ride a bike or motorcycle with hard gear strapped to my torso. Accidents are often caused by some other guy. And I'm 7 years older than you. After reading my reply it didn't come over as it was meant to....... not the first time I've done that. I'm cool with taking my SL with the three lenses on my bike. In fact just the fact of having it strapped to my back makes me more conscious of my surroundings Neil
Sandokan Posted June 16, 2017 Share #12 Posted June 16, 2017 I am a bit younger than you but not much and about the same build. My last bike accident wasnt my fault. And the tarmac hurts. Hate to know what it would feel like with an SL plus metal lenses to cushion my fall.
Yuhau Posted June 16, 2017 Share #13 Posted June 16, 2017 My concerns are : 1. Does it have enough protection for my body when I landed on top of the cameras and equipment . The bag has to provide enough coushioning effect for me and not just of the camera. I did tripped and fell one time .. 2. The weight of camera .. I left my SL at home and took M240 instead . it worked out OK for my last trip to Italy this May . T , M240 plus 3 m lenses and IPad all tucked away in a cut / theft proof PAC SAFE knap sack . I am 67 ..

When people buy a camera bag to carry there cameras......... do you take into consideration what happens if I fall over, what happens if someone trips me over, what happens if a drunk driver hits me........ I don't think soI like taking pictures and see many picture opertunities while out riding...... hence the nice small camera bag

Jeff S Posted June 16, 2017 Share #18 Posted June 16, 2017 (edited) Exactly my point..........No, it's the opposite . Bike riding can be dangerous and requires safety precautions not necessary for walking.... helmets, carrying precautions, etc. No wonder film procedures confuse you. Yuhau Posted June 16, 2017 Share #20 Posted June 16, 2017 There are no right or wrong answer - just sharing of experience . I was glad I had my setup during the 4 hr hike in CIngue Terre and the fall . I feel invincible until after my 67 th birthday . Everything has to be taken in good stride if I want to continue to enjoy my photography travelling around the world. Cheers !!!! Happy shooting
