M6 function tips for a new user.

Hi guys!

It seems the Leica bug has finally calmed down. I'm quite satisfied with the collection. It started with the M3 2 months ago. Then it grew to the M9. It got sent to get the sensor replaced, so then it grew to the M8. And now I see the convenience of having the meter integrated into the camera since I shoot a lot indoors with my crazy girls, I just upgraded to an M6 Classic.

I kinda knew how the meter works since using the M9 and M8 already. But I don't know any details and haven't seen any out there.

1.) Is the meter center calibrating in the center? Like inside the patch? Or is it more generic and metering the view overall? Just want to know so that I can meter the subjects I want and get exposure as perfect as possible.

2.) I remember seeing somewhere that the lever on the M6 activated the meter? To have it completely off it needs to be in Bulb? I noticed a little black dot under the lever, but this camera came with an M3 style lever. Not the M6 stock that has the hinged black part. Is that an issue? Or should I not be worried about that? I noticed it pretty much only activates when you half press the shutter. Does that mean it's off until I half press?

Thanks in advanced for all the help!!!

Sorry guys! Most used stuff doesn't come with the manual, like my M6 that i just got.

And i didn't know there were manuals already scanned out there for us to read up on.

Yes you are right, the light metering questions was answered by the manual. I now know what the light meter area is for the lenses.

What is not mentioned on the manual is what that little black spot behind the shutter dial is. But it does not seem to affect anything since the manual states the light meter only turns on when you cock the lever and put tension to the film.

Thanks again guys!
