Sev_TD Posted June 2, 2017 Share #1 Posted June 2, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello everybody! As you might have noticed, i am new to the forum. I am About to buy my first Leica, an M6 (from 1993) in perfect condition with a 35mm summicron v4, also in perfect condition. Asking price is 1700€ for the set. The owner Will search for the boxes, which is a plus. Do you think this is a good price? As told, everything works fine, no scratches, small holes in the curtains, no oil on the diafragm. Be honest, i think i'll be able to handle it

Martin B Posted June 2, 2017 Share #3 Posted June 2, 2017 (edited) Just the lens alone is about $1700 on the used online market. If you get the combo for this kind of deal, it is excellent. Just be cautious, online too-good-to-be-true deals often are faulty. I would more than triple-check the validity and the seller here especially if it is an online seller. If you know this person, it is a different story. That's where I got my best photo deals in the past, too (from people I personally knew). I made a similar catch recently with someone who sold his whole nearly mint darkroom stuff plus excellent 4x5 large format camera with lenses for a few hundred bucks. When it happens, it is like winning the lottery. Often these kind of sellers enjoy that their beloved gear is still being used by somebody passionate about this as well and therefore are fine with selling it for a low price. If the condition of the gear is as described, go for it - even if you don't need it as much later, you can sell it again for a good price (but likely you will stick with it). If the sellers description is correct, then ask if you can put a roll through, shoot and process. Alternatively, open the rear door and hold the body against a window to see where the small holes in the curtain are. Use B and wind the lever as you are doing this. Run all the shutter speeds, taking careful note of 1/4, 1/2 & 1 sec. The meter should be working. Check battery, worth asking the seller if this is working. Good luck with the purchase. Unless you meant "no small holes in the curtain", Sev . Otherwise all of Eddie's comments regarding meter and shutter speeds are highly relevant. I would also listen to the shutter sound at 1/15 and 1/30 with the camera against your ear. You should hear a pinging noise for a second after the shutter has tripped. This is normal. Even if both the camera and lens needed a full CLA, it is still a very good deal at that price. Good luck! Cheers, J

Thanks J I stand corrected
