Leica m6 focus issues?

Hello folks! New to the forums. I have a m6 that I'm been using with a 2.5 50mm cron. I'm getting superb images overall, however I feel like there are some that are not coming back sharp or in focus. Especially ones focused at infinity.

I'm wondering if it's an issue with my m6 or cron. A few images attached as example.

Thoughts?

Everything looks out of focus in the first two, the third being slightly better.

Taking 1 and 2, did you set the lens to infinity, at the hard stop, and can you remember the settings for aperture and shutter speed.

I recently purchased an M6, and part of the test sequence for the first roll of film was to test RF accuracy at minimum distance and at infinity using my 50mm summilux, knowing the lens was accurate on my M240. Have you tested the lens on another camera?

Where to start with so little information?

The top one, if focused on infinity why? Focus nearer the foreground and use DOF (stop the lens down) to get the background in focus. Use the principle that there is more DOF behind the point focused on than in front of what is focused on, and then everything will be in focus. But the background does look blurred, it could be camera shake, it could be the result of atmospheric haze.

The middle one, see above, except the background looks sharper.

The last one, looks ok, seems like you focused on the subject. The background isn't tack sharp but this may be intentional by using a wide aperture, or accidental by using a wide aperture. Everything in the picture doesn't have to be in focus, shallow DOF accentuates the main subject, you just have to anticipate what the viewers eye will be drawn to in the final image. So with the top image the viewers eye is drawn to the out of focus foreground irrespective of the town beyond being the main subject.

All of them. There is the additional caveat that we don't know how the images were produced post exposure, so irrespective of focus concerns the images could be compromise by scanning resolution, JPEG quality, etc.

None of the pictures are focused on infinty. In the first one, focus seems to be at 10-20 meters somewhere. In the next two, the focus also seems to be somewhere relative close to the photographer. For infinity, turn the focus all the way til it stops.

Yep, definitely had focus set to infinity on the first. Interesting about stopping down and not setting to infinity to get the furthest point in focus @250swb mentioned... I'm embarrassed to say I don't quite understand.

The third, I definitely had the subjects in focus through my rangefinder. But as you can see they do not look crisp at all.

I am pretty sure I had f8 set on these..
