Can not be removed from outside. No other dust in the camera at all. Never had that problem with any other M. Has anyone experienced this problem too? Welcome, dear visitor! jaapv Posted June 1, 2017 Share #3 Posted June 1, 2017 The outside around the ocular ring looks quite dirty too. It doesn't appear to be too difficult to correct, remove the ocular by the screws and a blast of compressed air. It might be possible to have it done by Leica Switzerland. Eric1 Posted June 1, 2017 Share #4 Posted June 1, 2017 That's too bad. The slow pace at which they make M's you would think there wouldn't be errors like this. I would contact Leica directly and let them know what happened. Seems odd dust would have gotten in there. I thought the M's were pretty weather sealed. earleygallery Posted June 1, 2017 Share #5 Posted June 1, 2017 There's a lot of dust/hair around the viewfinder - where are you using that camera!
thomi Posted June 1, 2017 Author Share #6 Posted June 1, 2017 The dirt around the ocular may be from a pullover. Inside the viewfinder is different dirt. The ring around the viewfinder is sharp and this may be the reason for the dirt Outsider.

Pretty sure there's meant to be a rubber piece over the viewfinder 'ring' to protect against the hard/sharp edges.
thomi Posted June 1, 2017 Author Share #9 Posted June 1, 2017 Pretty sure there's meant to be a rubber piece over the viewfinder 'ring' to protect against the hard/sharp edges. Your are absolutely right. The ring is missing. I checked with Leica Pictures. It fell off - one more problem. But I think, the rubber ring is not part of the dust and water sealing. The camera is at Leica and they will clean it. I just hope, they can solve the sealing and the problem with the loose rubber ring. Apart from that, the M10 is a great camera. I already miss it :-))
bocaburger Posted June 3, 2017 Share #10 Posted June 3, 2017 The problem started with the (film) MP when for whatever reason Leica abandoned casting a boss in the top plate which accepted a threaded eyepiece, in favor of a flat bracket screwed to the top plate with a lip over which the rubber ring slipped. As the bracket was flat but the top plate curved, there were were screws only at 12, 3 and 6; and about a 1mm gap at 9! The rubber ring was shaped to disguise the gap, but it failed to seal out dust. Leica's solution was to apply sealant when people sent them back. I recall choosing to seal mine myself. The problem never occured on subsequent models, which apparently were better sealed. Simon Posted June 3, 2017 Share #11 Posted June 3, 2017 (edited) Why does the pic show what appears to be heavy wear and even possibly a chip around the bottom of the eyepiece and dark hairline scratches on the left? How could that even happen? It looks to be in terrible shape. If I saw that pic alone I'd think it was possibly mistreated or even abused. Fortunately Ms are repairable. The camera is like new. What you see are textile fibres around the eyepiece. Close up photographs often look dramatic.
Simon Posted June 3, 2017 Share #13 Posted June 3, 2017 Thanks. It does indeed. Odd that the white fibres are concentrated near the bottom. Hope you get it back soon.

ShaunD Posted June 15, 2017 Share #15 Posted June 15, 2017 Just checked and there is quite a bit of dust on the inside of my viewfinder. It is not stored in and has never been used in a dusty environment. Just sent the same picture to my Leica dealer asking if they can clean it for me. thomi Posted June 15, 2017 Author Share #16 Posted June 15, 2017 It seams to be a general problem.
ShaunD Posted June 15, 2017 Share #17 Posted June 15, 2017 If the M10 is weather sealed then the dust must have been in there from when it was made which is not what I would expect from Leica. My dealer has had a look and can't clean it so they are going to send it to Leica Mayfair to get it seen to. All a bit disappointing as I have only had it a few weeks and Im going to be without it again for another 2 weeks at least.
thomi Posted June 15, 2017 Author Share #18 Posted June 15, 2017 In my case, I think, it was the problem of an incortect mouning of the viewfinder sealing. The dust entered from the outside.
Eric1 Posted June 15, 2017 Share #19 Posted June 15, 2017 should have gotten the chrome edition. i heard they pay more attention to those when assembling than they do the black.
