Back in early January, I was offered an APO Summicron M 90mm APO f 2 ASPH as part of an estate sale for a ridiculously low price.  The pristine lens did not have the six-bit code so I had it sent to Leica for the upgrade.  They (NJ) apparently found an issue with the lens and it was sent to Germany.  I'm told it has been upgraded/repaired and I should have it next week.  It has been out of my hands for over five months.  Is this normal?

Last year, I sent my 90 AA to New Jersey for calibraton (especially wide open, the lens is unforgiving of focus errors), and while it was in the shop they found and fixed a problem with the diaphragm. I don't think it required a trip to Germany, though. Back in two months, which is relatively fast for NJ.

I'm not sure what was done, other than the 6-bit code.  The upgraded cost estimate was only $75 above the original quote so I don't think it could have been anything too bad.  Anyway, I'm sure looking forward to getting it back as I leave for a 7 weeks trip to Alaska in just under two weeks.

Thanks for the replies.

My best experience with NJ was about five years ago when I bought a 90 Summicron ASPH locally for an excellent price and found out that focus was way off (no doubt the reason for  the good price). I sent it to NJ for adjustment and it was returned to me in super condition and no charge was billed. Regards, Ron

Whoa..... correction. about three years ago my M9 was sent to NJ and they forwarded to Europe. Europe dragged it out quite a bit.  In that I needed it by a certain date for the filming of my granddaughter's wedding in Jamaica,  Leica NJ gave me an M9 loaner.  In short, I've had always had good service from Leica, NJ.
