jimleicam3 Posted May 25, 2017 Share #1 Posted May 25, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Last year I sold my M 8 and all my Canon gear and waited for the M 10. Just got a call from my dealer and he has a silver M 10 with my name on it. Now I am getting cold feet...Yes the M 10 has better magnification for my aging eyes, faster buffer, thinner body ( like my M3), better screen. But as someone who does this only for fun. Is the M 10 really worth $1000.00 USD more than the 262? I saved my 35 mm and 50 mm for my new camera, but now I am getting crazy. M 10 or 262? Someone talk me off the ledge!! Cheers.
Advertisement Posted May 25, 2017 Posted May 25, 2017 Hi jimleicam3, Take a look here Going for broke M10 vs 262. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
John Ricard Posted May 25, 2017 Share #2 Posted May 25, 2017 Other than price, there is not a single reason to buy the M262 over the M10. The M10 is better at low light and, more importantly, has a better buffer. With the M262, the most you can shoot is about 8 images before you hit the buffer. The M10 will give you dozens. Its a major difference and well worth $1,000. The thinner body is also a pretty big deal for me.
tbonanno Posted May 25, 2017 Share #3 Posted May 25, 2017 (edited) YES, in my opinion, it's definitely worth the extra money. I replaced my 262 with the M10. Never looked back. The M10 is better in every way. Bite the bullet and go for it. Especially if you have one waiting for you with your name on it. Lots of folks in long waiting queues. If you don't like it, I'm sure you can sell it quickly. Edited May 25, 2017 by tbonanno
Eric1 Posted May 25, 2017 Share #4 Posted May 25, 2017 I have debated this too since getting a M262 is easier right now than an M10. For me the price difference makes the M262 very appealing but one hang up I have is the wifi option in M10. When I'm shooting, the ability to transfer files from my camera to my phone to work mobile is huge for me. Its probably not worth a thousand dollars but the convience has made me want to get the M10 instead.
mhicks Posted May 25, 2017 Share #5 Posted May 25, 2017 Anticipated regret. It can be a pretty powerful emotion that we all - consciously or sub-consciously - factor into our decisions. It's personal. It relies upon your past experiences with regret. And our estimation of it is usually overstated. You made a decision before to buy the M10 under no duress, knowing full well that it wasn't in front of you. What were the list of reasons that made you want to buy it in the first place? Explore those more than the possibility of regret later, an emotion that we are not that good at estimating.
Denys Posted May 25, 2017 Share #6 Posted May 25, 2017 You mention quite a few advantages (for you) that the M10 has over the M262..but no advantages the other way.. ..to misquote - "those qualities will remain long after the price is forgotten". Go for the M10! :-)
Frase Posted May 25, 2017 Share #7 Posted May 25, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Is any Leica product worth the money? Then again if you buy something thats not an m10 it may just annoy you that much that in the future you buy an m10 anyway.
LocalHero1953 Posted May 25, 2017 Share #8 Posted May 25, 2017 Since when has buying Leica kit ever been about value for money? It comes down to do you want it and can you afford it. If the answer is yes to both, then buy it. You'll get nowhere agonising about the value of a pixel or ISO stop. If you're still not sure, then give your money to someone who will put it to use, rather than burning a hole in your pocket: your kids or Oxfam (YMMV on this last matter). earleygallery Posted May 25, 2017 Share #9 Posted May 25, 2017 The better alternative would be a used 262 if the cost is worrying you. Probably a good time to buy used as many will want the latest model.
Jk1002 Posted May 25, 2017 Share #10 Posted May 25, 2017 I bought a Leica 262 recertified for little less then 4000$ and that seems to be a common deal. Full warranty. For 1000$ difference i wouldnt consider it though and giving you can actually get the m10 go for it
stefanusj Posted May 26, 2017 Share #11 Posted May 26, 2017 if youre considering the value of money, just buy a used m9 or m9p. its a really great camera, and the price is really low right now, but the value is really high. but back to topic, m262 vs m10: M10 all the way!!! Herr Barnack Posted May 26, 2017 Share #15 Posted May 26, 2017 (edited) Get the M10 - it is a significant step up in capability and function from the 262. For $1000 USD, the upgrade is a steal. The new sensor alone is worth the extra $1K, not to mention the much higher ISO capability and the vast improvement in buffer performance. At the end of the day, the purpose of money is not to possess it, but to use it to make our lives more enjoyable. enboe Posted May 26, 2017 Share #16 Posted May 26, 2017 +1 for the M10. I own them all, except the M60, actually, and the M10 is the best imaging machine of the M digital series to date. The difference in high ISO capability justifies the cost, but a number of other useful improvements enhance the experience. If you need something to fulfill your M needs while awaiting the M10, consider a film M. An M6 is around $1K, trades in for $650-700, so that's cheap rent or maybe just a cheap backup. Foxtwo Posted May 26, 2017 Share #19 Posted May 26, 2017 I get slightly chilly feet as I await the ephemeral M10 to arrive as well. However, seeing and handling the M10 at a couple of camera store that I get to patronize from time to time warm them up quite nicely, which tides me over until the next month. Pretty much committed to take the camera now, assuming that it arrives before the Sweet Meteor of Death obliterates the planet.

There seems to be too much fraud going on.
