rafikiphoto Posted May 24, 2017 Share #1 Posted May 24, 2017 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) I am going on a safari to Botswana next month. For the wild dogs, which are my main subjects, I am taking my Canon gear but I thought it would be interesting to take my MM1 along with just a 35mm Summicron to record our camp life too. It occurs to me that it might be a good idea to take along a small, compact flash for this project. Would the SF26 be man-enough for in-camp shots at night? It is a private safari so the camp will be small. Are there third party alternatives? I am not very technical with flash so it would need to be pretty automatic. Any advice much appreciated. Edit: Would the SF20 be good enough for the job? It would certainly save a bit of cash. Edited May 24, 2017 by rafikiphoto
Advertisement Posted May 24, 2017 Posted May 24, 2017 Hi rafikiphoto, Take a look here Small flash recommendation?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Ko.Fe. Posted May 24, 2017 Share #2 Posted May 24, 2017 (edited) I have SF26 and it is small and light. It will give enough light in the room at night with lights turned off. It also has LED which might be useful at f2 and ISO1600 and higher for objects nearby. The only issue with it I have, it is better to have fresh batteries (AAA) to make it always sync with camera. Here is my report about first days experience with it on M-E: https://leicameandme.wordpress.com/2016/12/21/sf-26-flashlight-for-leica-m-system/ Edit: I'm not sure if SF20 is good with digital M. SF26 with first fw version is compatible with M9/E, for M240 it needs to be send to Leica for firmware update to support some of M240 flash functions. Edited May 24, 2017 by Ko.Fe.
