Mantice Posted May 22, 2017 Share #1 Posted May 22, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Has anyone who got M10 early try the new 28/2.8 ASPH and see a difference versus M240? Or lucky to try both ASPH 28/2.8 on the M10?
Advertisement Posted May 22, 2017 Posted May 22, 2017 Hi Mantice, Take a look here New vs. Old 28mm f/2.8 ASPH on M10. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
enboe Posted May 22, 2017 Share #2 Posted May 22, 2017 Briefly, the newest 28/2.8/ASPH is sharpest in the corners over all of its precursors. It's worth the price.
stephan54 Posted May 22, 2017 Share #3 Posted May 22, 2017 I am new to Leica so I cannot compare the new to the older version. I bought a M10 together with the 28 2.8 and a 50 1.4. Used the 28 extensively for a few weeks while the 50 had to visit Wetzlar and I am impressed with the 28 as it is a very versatile lens that produces very good detail and colour. I prefer it to the 21 Zeiss I used on my Nikon D700.
yaufei Posted May 27, 2017 Share #4 Posted May 27, 2017 How does the new 28 cron 11672 come into the picture? The price is quite substantial from the 2.8 but its size is acceptable. The Lux is too big.
LeicaR10 Posted May 28, 2017 Share #5 Posted May 28, 2017 For Mantice, I agree with Enboe at Post #2. The new 28mm is has much better resolution in the corners with the M10 and SL for that matter. IMO, all three M 28mm lenses are superb. For Huracan, The new 28mm Summicron works great on the M10 as well and it draws differently than the 28mm f/2.8. IMO the 28mm Summilux size is definitely not a show stopper for me and it draws superbly for its aperture and intended purpose. Then again, everyone "sees" differently and really at the end of the day...its the image content and what the photographer is trying to convey is what matters most IMO. r/ Mark
klgdigital Posted May 29, 2017 Share #6 Posted May 29, 2017 What if you had a choice between the newest 28mm 2.8 or a one version older 28mm 2.0 cron Asph for slightly cheaper? Trying to make the call on which to get.
Ecar Posted May 29, 2017 Share #7 Posted May 29, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'd get the Summicron. But only because I value the faster aperture more.
sml_photo Posted May 29, 2017 Share #8 Posted May 29, 2017 ....all three M 28mm lenses are superb. The new 28mm Summicron works great on the M10 as well and it draws differently than the 28mm f/2.8. Interesting! I've been trying to do a bit of research on this comparison of the new versions of the 28mm (f2.8 and f2.0) and can't seem to find much. I'd appreciate it if you would please expand on your observations? I've heard both lenses are great, that the speed difference between the two is insignificant, size difference, etc. But I haven't found anything about the real advantage (and price difference) of the Summicron. Hardly seems like the speed alone is the justification. Thanks!
Mantice Posted May 29, 2017 Author Share #9 Posted May 29, 2017 Thanks LeicaR10 and enboe. So when you compare the two, the edge is much sharper for M10 and SL? I knew someone had compare on the SL but have not see any photos on the M10; but if the old/new is obvious, maybe it is better to sell the old one and get the new one instead? (or maybe wait for its successor but not sure if it will ever come)
LeicaR10 Posted May 29, 2017 Share #10 Posted May 29, 2017 Mantice and SML_Photo, If you want a great review and see good examples of the two lenses to include the old and new Summicron and Elmarit, I suggest you check out Sean Reid's website. He does a very good job with his tests and images. His site is a pay site but if you are spending money for Leica lenses and cameras it is worth doing your due diligence. Try: www.reidreviews.com I use his site before spending/upgrading Leica gear. Just a recommendation for your piece of mind. r/ Mark
