Some shots of the Voigtlander 21 1.8 on the Leica T.

Really, a pleasure to use. Simple to focus, as almost everything is in focus to begin with. IQ seems to be quite nice.

Very pleased!

Compression really compromise the IQ, which is inherently very good. No attempt to remove the chromatic aberration, either.

Yes, but I am finding that a lot in Florida with ALL of my lenses.

The Chromatic aberration is really not good at all!... I am surprised to see that much with this lens!...

Converting to B&W will fix the purple fringing...  :)

Just kidding BTW.  And no need to remove the CA in post.  I believe for everybody it is interesting to see just how much there is.  Thanks for posting, Joris.

Rob,

It's an interesting and thoroughly worthwhile experiment I think, and so thank you for doing this.

My first T (OK, I'll admit it, my second too) were really just digital backs for my M lenses, 50, 35, and 28mm.

All worked OK, but I tired of the chore of opening up to focus, stopping down to expose, opening up to focus again as the subject had moved, stopping down to shoot, etc, etc, etc.

My third T (I am seeking counselling, so don't worry, :D ) is now mainly almost solely with the native T lenses, in my case the 23 Summicron, and the 18-56. And I cannot be happier.

I cannot see a need or even a whim to try non-native lenses, the two I have work so well, and are actually cost effective compared to the M lenses, or possibly even the CV lenses.

Gary,

I am lying down on the psychiatrist's couch right after you. I'm on my 3rd as well.

I had traded in all of my T gear to buy into the SL 601. I purchased the Vario Elmarit 24-90 zoom, which is outstanding but a load to carry. I also bought into a bunch of M mount lenses, including the noctilux and the CV lenses. They perform exceptionally on the SL. MF is a bit of a pain in the butt, but 21mm and 15 mm CV lenses are outstanding options for the SL.

Then, I began to consider buying a 75mm f2, but thought to simply buy back into the T (at the bargain pre-owned prices) and simply avail myself of the 1.5 crop factor. With the Zeiss 50mm planar, it is quite easy to focus on the T. The noctilux is more of a challenge.

Nonetheless, my belief is that the new-to-be TL is going to be outstanding, with a wonderful EVF and fast AF. Leica has done it with the Q and SL, so why would they not implement it on the TL system?

At the end of the day I think the SL and TL complement each other so very nicely. I am going to reacquire the T autofocus lenses as well in the coming months. At some point in time, when released by the psychiatrist I will likely thin out some of the lens collection. For what it is worth, the Voigtlander lenses are superb bargains. I just took a batch with the 15mm f4.5, which I am going to post after I finish this note, and I am blown away by how well it performs. The crop factor makes it perform much differently than on the SL, the IQ is fabulous, and at max aperture of f4.5 it is almost always in focus.

If interested take a look at the thread I am going to post on.

Having said all that, your points are well taken about limiting your lenses.

Darn, this couch is comfortable, you'll have to wait a bit Rob.

Yes, saw the CV15 post, and was equally impressed.

To be fair, it was a lens I had thought of trying, and reasoning that the 23 Summicron, plus a 15mm (of any manufacturer, but likely CV) plus the 50 Summicron M would prove to be a great little kit. Then I figured, what the heck, just use the 18-56 you clown.

Anyway, good to have choice.

Be gentle with our shrink please.

+1.  First of all I entirely agree with you, owning the Q and the SL as well.

That being said, and playing the devil's advocate, if the T had been as good as you want it to be you probably would not have bought the SL, would you...?

To be perfectly blunt I don't see Leica producing an APS-C camera that could potentially be a threat to the M or the SL.

They will make sure it is a camera that is only "complementary" to the M and the SL...

It is perfectly OK to accuse me of cynicism if you want...  :)
