Guest NEIL-D-WILLIAMS Posted May 19, 2017 Share #1 Posted May 19, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Question I have a Noctilux 0.95 and I use it on my Leica SL. Do you think that the Noctilux 0.95 will render the same on the SL compared to the new M-10? What I mean is if I took a picture of a stationary object (wine bottle for example) at 0.95 on the SL and did the same picture on the M-10 would they look the same ..................ISO and shutter speeds the same Thanks Neil
Advertisement Posted May 19, 2017 Posted May 19, 2017 Hi Guest NEIL-D-WILLIAMS, Take a look here Question for the toffs regarding the Leica Noctilux 0.95. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
pedaes Posted May 19, 2017 Share #2 Posted May 19, 2017 What do you mean by "look the same'. Different sensors, so irrespective of lens the base files will render very slightly differently. You really ought to invest $10 of your hard earned in the LFI article if this is a big question for you.
justj Posted May 19, 2017 Share #3 Posted May 19, 2017 After you drank the bottle, it shold make no difference anyway.

Well I was thinking that seeing as they have different sensors the image would render differently..............I was also hoping to get someone who has a Noctilux and both the M-10 and SL to confirm with a picture or two.........do you have all threee?? 01af Posted May 19, 2017 Share #7 Posted May 19, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Do you think that the Noctilux-M 50 mm 1:0.95 Asph will render the same on the Leica SL compared to the new M10? That's exactly what I tested the other day ... umm, except I used the Apo-Summicron-M 50 mm Asph instead of the Noctilux, and the Leica M (Typ 240) instead of the M10 The rendition of that M lens on the M and SL cameras basically was the same. But when looking carefully at a higher magnification then you'll notice slightly better sharpness near the frame's edges with the M camera. The SL's sensor handles M lenses well—better than, say, the Sony A7 series of mirrorless 35-mm-format cameras—yet not quite as well as the M's sensor. I guess it's not too far-fetched to assume that it'll be the same with the Noctilux and the M10. If you want to exploit the last drop of performance from the M lenses, better use an M camera.

phongph Posted May 19, 2017 Share #9 Posted May 19, 2017 Hi! I have got SL601, SL 24-90/f2.8-4.0 and M10 with M Apo 50 and M Lux 75. I feel M lens on M10 more 3D, very sharp at the center and less sharp to edge. The render of both camera look the same, but I like the render M lens on M 10 more than on SL because of less digital (my private idea). I think SL is good for SL lens with AF! The Focus of my M lens on SL is very good. The Focus of M Apo lens at max aperture on M10 is Ok by RF and very easy by peaking asst on LV. The Focus of M Lux 75 at max apeture on M10 is not easy by RF, eps at night, but easy by peaking asst on LV. I will aks my friend the render of his Noct 0.95 on his SL and M10 also! Have a nice day! Thanks!
Jeff S Posted May 19, 2017 Share #10 Posted May 19, 2017 There are other considerations, e.g, for a similar focusing experience, you'll need to attach the new EVF. Otherwise, if your RF technique isn't stellar, results might not be optimal. I prefer M lenses on an M.... but I haven't had to deal with Noctilux wide open focusing. Guest Posted May 19, 2017 Share #11 Posted May 19, 2017 Neil, we know you: the only way you'll find out it by clicking "Yes, I buy the M10!" Does-it-make-that-much-of-a-difference, really? You know, you can create art with a pin-hole-lomo... So wtf The other day you wanted to bin all, except S and D5. Why not surf for MTB accessories or golf drivers instead, while still at work? Even if made out of platinum-titanium, it'll hurt your credit-card less. You're THE study case regarding GASS out of control Sorry to have to say that, mate but you give average-Joe's GAS a bad name: we just sit here thinking - "Gosh, THAT's how it ends!!" Terry I got the first bit but after that you lost me in golf and credit card......it must have been an American thing that went right over the top of my head!!!!! And I know the SL makes focusing the Noctilux a breeze. The whole point, Neil, is that if you also just use the M10 in RF mode, your technique must be stellar... AND you'll need to be sure your lens and RF are properly calibrated to start. You asked about M10 vs SL... hence my post. I won't (again) quote your own posts where you screamed about not being able to focus properly when taking yourr wife's portrait.... and dumped your M not long after, Hopefully lessons learned. Why are considering switching from the SL in the first place, especially given your content with the Noctilux combo? Jeff

Guest NEIL-D-WILLIAMS Posted May 19, 2017 Share #20 Posted May 19, 2017 . Why are considering switching from the SL in the first place, especially given your content with the Noctilux combo? Jeff Hears my logic My S is Fantastic......nothing that I have matches it for IQ but it heavy My SL is fantastic but sum what heavy The M-10 is (yet to find out) but light I don't have any SL lenses as they are monstrosities, meaning I only shoot M lenses on the SL. I have all the adapters S to SL Nikon to SL Hasselblad V to SL but in reality I have only ever used these adapters once when I first got them then put them in the same drawer as the rest of my trash. Like most photographers we are all looking for the golden apple, and some are willing to spend anything to find it............you know the ones I mean Jeff. For me I just want to keep my S and rather than bin everything else , maybe but maybe fall in love with an M again. I had the Q and at first thought I had that walk about golden apple but it turned out that the fixed 28mm was not my cup of tea. My M6 ttl with the Arte Di Mano half case looks amazing but the 35mm film IMHO is sh!te.............. 6 x 6 and 4 x 5 is another ball game though. So Im still looking for that golden apple, I already have it in the S007 but try lugging that frigging thing around with 3 lenses all day and you will soon get a divorce with that puppy. I NEED that walk around camera, one that I can fit the Burgendy Arte Di Mano half case on and shoot my M lenses with....................., until I find that then I won't be a happy camper.
