Hi M10 owners

How are your experiences with the stability of the new M10? I have recently upgraded from the M240 and that camera occasionally froze. I have shot some pics for testing and fun, but is the M10 safe for once in a life time events like weddings.

Cheers

Operationally very stable. No issues at all. I am very impressed. My M-D was DOA, for example, and was instantly replaced.

Once I had a slight issue with a stored preset I was not able anymore to select again. Maybe some corrupt data. After removing the settings entry I could store the settings in the very slot again and was also able to select it again.

My M10 has trouble with reading SD cards. I've lost images. It's a crap-shoot as to what card will work. I have not ever had any camera that had such trouble with SD reading, let alone one that costs $7000 for the body only. So, that makes my M10 the least reliable camera I own.

There are a couple threads in this very forum about it. It is not an isolated problem.

Operationally it seems OK. No glitches or major failures save for the SD fiasco.

100% stable, no freezes, no failures to write to card.  Only issue is previously-discussed extra tenth of a second or two for the meter to catch up if you turn the camera on and take the cap off in one motion, followed by a quick shot.  Solution - leave the lens cap off.

The M240 had common instability problems (freezing) when launched, well documented here, which were resolved by successive firmware updates and, for some, shutter replacements. I had several freezes in the first year or so, none since.

But as others have said, the only response to an important once in a lifetime event is backup and redundancy.

So far not stable. Crashes, froze, slow reading...Same sad story as my previous digital Leicas. I love them though. Hop they fix it with firmware updates.

Very stable, more so than M9, which needs battery in and out sometimes to get it re-awakened.

But for wedding you need at least 3 batteries I think because the startup time is 2 seconds which is much longer than M9, so you have to leave it on on such a day if you don't want to miss the moments and that costs energy

If you shoot weddings, you know you will need backup of every bit of gear you use.

It all can and will fail.

The only question is when?

If you don't do this, don't shoot weddings, or anything, professionally.

Starting with dual slot for memory cards . . .

Yes, yet another backup possibility, but I would rate that down the scale a bit from camera and lighting gear which historically fail more often, whatever the brand. But still a sensible option when available. Not available  in Leicas, yet.

SL has dual slot I guess... (or you meant not available in Leica M)

While I don't doubt you have had issues as had others.,..that same thread will point you to cards that are 100% reliable. Why not just buy those cards and move on?

I haven't lost a single image since the camera arrived in January.
