SillyBun Posted April 22, 2017 Share #1 Posted April 22, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all, I just received my new EVF 2 for the M 240, and I want to confirm if I've received a defect. I'm able to turn the diopter ring to any direction 360 degrees. Is this by design? Thanks, Billy

dem331 Posted April 22, 2017 Share #2 Posted April 22, 2017 Mine turns about 170° to the left and 170° to the right
SillyBun Posted April 22, 2017 Author Share #3 Posted April 22, 2017 So, you can not spin it around, correct?
Jean-Michel Posted April 22, 2017 Share #4 Posted April 22, 2017 Mine has a hard stop at the bottom: the small marker goes from bottom to bottom but does not 'spin'

jdlaing Posted April 22, 2017 Share #7 Posted April 22, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just an aside.......does the diopter work and can you set it to see correctly?
epand56 Posted April 26, 2017 Share #8 Posted April 26, 2017 Just an aside.......does the diopter work and can you set it to see correctly? Yes, absolutely. If the diopter is incorrect I see anything flou. When set correctly for my eye it is extremely clear.
jdlaing Posted April 26, 2017 Share #9 Posted April 26, 2017 Yes, absolutely. If the diopter is incorrect I see anything flou. When set correctly for my eye it is extremely clear. I know yours does. I can see it in your results. I was asking Sillybun as he seemed to think it was defective.
rbaron Posted May 5, 2017 Share #10 Posted May 5, 2017 I'd be happy to hear opinions on the usefulness of this device. The ability to swivel it up to shoot with the camera close to the ground could be useful (I photograph our small dogs); what are its drawbacks? Exodies Posted May 5, 2017 Share #11 Posted May 5, 2017 You are in live view mode so the exposure is delayed and the battery life is much less. Otherwise, when you need it (e.g. 21mm) it's great.
david strachan Posted May 5, 2017 Share #12 Posted May 5, 2017 The EVF 2 works well for me. Some lenses focus differently to the rangefinder focus..ie back or front focus. The electronic viewfinder allows very exact focusing. The tilt is handy. It also visualises the "Depth of Field" which one does not get using the rangefinder. I like the dioptre correction, and the rubberised surface is great if you use glasses. Battery life is perhaps reduced, as Exodies says...but the M240 battery is legendry...certainly the best I've used in any of my digital cameras. I see there is one for sale (at a good price) in the Forum "Buy & Sell" section. all best ...
rsolomon Posted May 6, 2017 Share #13 Posted May 6, 2017 Easy to use, at first I struggled as I preferred the OVF, after some use and more important seeing the results I am a fan and highly recommend-especially for longer or wider focal lengths.
ru2far2c Posted May 7, 2017 Share #14 Posted May 7, 2017 Being someone who wears glasses I find it helpful using 50 lux etc once it's ajusted to your eye. Also like the ability to use it at 90* not quite the same as a 500 c. I also shoot jpg + raw with the jpg set to b&w so it is easier to see the red marching ants for focus. Then delete unwanted jogs. And, if your vision is fine with glasses you probably would benefit from a diopter on the OVF. I find that a +0/5 diopter make the OVF view thatch better. The OVF is set to a minus 0.5 diopter, so if your eyeglasses are properly corrected you need a plus 0.5 diopter
jaapv Posted May 11, 2017 Share #16 Posted May 11, 2017 ?? The diopter is -0.5 for a person with perfect vision, as that makes accomodation easier between 2m and infinity. Why would you want to cmpensate for that?
EoinC Posted May 11, 2017 Share #17 Posted May 11, 2017 EVF-2 works well for me, particularly shooting in poorly-lit locations.
wda Posted May 11, 2017 Share #18 Posted May 11, 2017 Mine in the Olympus original which has an optional flexible eye shield. I find that very useful.
jaapv Posted May 11, 2017 Share #19 Posted May 11, 2017 The Olympus eyecup will fit the Leica EF as well.
Jean-Michel Posted May 11, 2017 Share #20 Posted May 11, 2017 ?? The diopter is -0.5 for a person with perfect vision, as that makes accomodation easier between 2m and infinity. Why would you want to cmpensate for that? We'll, I never paid attention to the diopter on the eyepiece of any of my M's for decades, I simply looked, focussed and shot. But more recently I started to notice that the image in the OVF was not as clear as it should be (on the M-P and M9). Now with a new prescription and new glasses, at my optometrist, I put various dioptres between my glasses and the camera eyepiece, in my case adding a plus 0.5 diopter made a large improvement. I have purchased and installed the dioptres and find it easier to focus. I am not an optician, but it may be that multifocal lenses are corrected to a different distance range that does not match the standard ovf correction. In any case, if one is worried about that, a visit to an optician or optometrist may be usefull. Jean-Michel
