adampriley Posted April 20, 2017 Share #1 Posted April 20, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) I recently found a company, called 213 lab, that provides protective film coverings for the M10. Anyone have any experience with these? (I cant find anything in the forum already....they also provide versions for other M cameras). The coverings protect all the metal aspects of the body, and I was thinking it might be useful. Especially for the baseplate which is easily scratched. A little concerned it will look naff, not work and / or be difficult to remove once fitted. Anyone used them? http://www.213lab.com/product/detail.html?product_no=173&cate_no=1&display_group=6 Cheers, Adam

Surelythisnameisfree Posted April 20, 2017 Share #3 Posted April 20, 2017 Just had a look at the link. Seems a bit pointless to me as it covers the flat parts and leaves the edges, where you'd expect wear and tear, unprotected. The only reason to do something like this is to protect resale value, and it seems like the cost is around £200/$250 which would be the difference between a mint and decent condition used camera anyway...

Jeffry Abt Posted April 20, 2017 Share #5 Posted April 20, 2017 I have not ever used a protective film covering. ...can't be of any help. (Do not worry about the little bits of ridicule) I understand completely how you would want to protect such a beautiful piece of equipment. I use a half case all the time for the same reason. You might want thinking about a half case. They will look good on your camera as well as give you a bit of protection.
pico Posted April 20, 2017 Share #6 Posted April 20, 2017 It is practically invisible if applied properly. About $28. Does not cover edges.
adampriley Posted April 20, 2017 Author Share #7 Posted April 20, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Haha, cheers guys! I hate keeping coverings on things like remote controls. Was just thinking of using it for the base plate which gets lots of wear... only £30 or so, might order and see what it looks like.
microview Posted April 20, 2017 Share #8 Posted April 20, 2017 Are you the sort of person who covers their furniture with plastic as well? I once met a guy with Linn Isobaric speakers. he had stuck strips of Dymo tape (?,) saying they were Linn Isobaric speakers, along the tops of the cabinet fronts. SilentShutter Posted April 20, 2017 Share #9 Posted April 20, 2017 A camera is a tool to use or am I wrong ? If you buy it to sell it again to make money put it in a save.
Printmaker Posted April 22, 2017 Share #10 Posted April 22, 2017 Your M10 will be worth $2,500 in 5 years regardless of what you do. So just take reasonable care of your camera and use it every day.
pico Posted April 22, 2017 Share #11 Posted April 22, 2017 (edited) I put the film on one of my M7 bodies largely as an experiment. I found two things: 1) It's tricky to apply. Don't try if you have a tremor and 2) the corners of the bodies wore down to the brass. So be it. Edited April 22, 2017 by pico
jmahto Posted April 24, 2017 Share #12 Posted April 24, 2017 Corners and edges usually wear down much earlier than flat surfaces. I doubt these coverings will protect edges and corners.
John Ricard Posted April 26, 2017 Share #13 Posted April 26, 2017 I heard not taking it out of the box works even better.

Here it is 7 years later in 2024 and an M10 body is worth $5,000 USD. 1
