Advertisement Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 Hi elviskennedy, Take a look here M8 now supported by Apple (merged thread) with DMR chatter too .... I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
wattsy Posted June 20, 2007 Share #2 Posted June 20, 2007 Blimey, I didn't think Apple would bother with the M8. Time to reinstall Aperture and see if I can get some use out of it.
dseelig Posted June 20, 2007 Share #3 Posted June 20, 2007 I take it this means aperture will work . I am at work a paper that uses microsoft ech. So someone tell me does aperture work now with the m8 ????
gwelland Posted June 20, 2007 Share #4 Posted June 20, 2007 From the release note: Adds RAW image decoding support for the following cameras: Panasonic DMC-LX1, Panasonic DMC-LX2, Leica M8, Leica D-LUX 2, Leica D-LUX 3, Fuji S5 Pro, Nikon D40x, and Canon EOS 1D Mk III. Resolves an issue in which some DNG images may appear tinted or distorted. I'll still have to hack raw.plist from the R-D1 but this is great news. I'm off to try the rendering of my M8 & LX-1 files ....
Guest sirvine Posted June 20, 2007 Share #5 Posted June 20, 2007 Too little, too late. Adobe got their monkey on my back first, and Aperture just doesn't differentiate itself enough to be worth a switch.

Eoin Posted June 20, 2007 Share #9 Posted June 20, 2007 Interesting that Apple have not used the matrix values reported by DCRaw. On all other cameras the matrix values reported are the same in Aperture. Good news is we no longer need to use the Adobe dng converter, bad news adjustments made with previous hacked raw pilst will now have a very very slight different saturation There is of course a work around for this, there is a script written by others that when modified can call Exiftool and modify the camera model for all selected files. This in essence will allow you to hang on to your existing adjustments by using the old profile for these files. I would suggest for the short term if you are importing DNG's into Aperture which has been updated that you put the images into a new project. I'm going to have to make contact with Ian Bogost our script specialist over the next day or so and get a nice easy script going for others to patch existing files. That is of course only if you think they need patching:). Personally I think we were very very close with the D200 hack and I can live without patching. The colour of the new M8 profile I'm glad to say lacks the Adobe "pink out" so those of you out there in Adobe & C1 land, if you want to know what real skintones look like with an M8 ...... have a re-look at Aperture. Thanks a bunch Apple, you've just made me redundant!

eyejockey Posted June 20, 2007 Share #11 Posted June 20, 2007 Cool got aperture a while back 1.1 now it is functional again David Just be aware that Aperture Vaults can crash unexpectedly and nothing will bring them back. This happened to me last September and if I hadn't backed up thousands of raw files separately from Aperture I would have lost them forever. It took me weeks to reconstruct my work. Complained to Apple and never received a reply. That was it for me. I don't care about their updates. They should never have marketed the program in the first place. Happily switched to Lightroom and have never looked back. Aperture has been brilliantly sold but for work and stability it can't touch Lightroom.....Stephen Goldblatt

Samir Jahjah Posted June 20, 2007 Share #13 Posted June 20, 2007 And how does Aperture deal with the IR issue? The presence or absence of IR filters? Did they find a miracle solution?

Eoin Posted June 20, 2007 Share #17 Posted June 20, 2007 Here is a quick comparison between the old and new profiles, I'd suggest Safari to view with since it's colour managed. Full M8 raw imported into aperture NO adjustments at all, just default settings and crop First image old profile second new profile supplied in 10.4.10 update Third image is defaults in lightroom Welcome, dear visitor! Kent10D Posted June 20, 2007 Share #18 Posted June 20, 2007 This is actually very useful! Just did the update on my Mac, and I can now open M8 DNG files in Preview (or iPhoto, even ... not I'm sure I'd actually want to do that though). Kent.
