Wilson- Did you run a "repair privileges" in disk utility? This can be a source of slowing down the system when upgrading the OS. best....Peter

Peter,

That is always my "first port of call" when I have a problem. It needed a bit more drastic action but as I posted, clearing and resetting the caches seems to have done the trick. My iMac is a bit slow as well but it is currently processing 12,000 thumbnails into Aperture so that is almost certainly dragging things down a bit.

Well, it took them a while but this is seriously good news. I have tried but I just can not get used to the C1 workflow and i really didn't like having to have to seperate archives.

Jamie's and Edmund's profiles (thanks for all your work guys) are wonderful, but switching between them in C1LE is a drag and it stops me from trying to bring the best out of that program. Aperture does wonderful conversions, they're easily tweaked to get the best out your files and I have always liked the skintones in Aperture better. Eoin's hack was superb but having M8 and other Leica files supported as they are by the system is much better. As good as they may be, I'd like to use as little workarounds as possible.

I am going to try to convert some of my more troublesome files and come up with a good general setting from which i can start everytime. Now all I need is my fourth and final Leica IR 60mm filter. It must feel really good not waiting for anything connected to the M8 anymore.

Eoin- the "old" profile looks best. How can the curremt OS/aperture be set this way?....Peter

HI Peter

Be careful - if you had a default camera profile set, then you may need to reset it, I found that some trees against backgrounds had a lot of moire (they had before the update).

Remove all modifications

followed by setting the Apple Default profile did sort it - so I've made that the new camera default (having removed sharpening and noise reduction). It's looking sweet at the moment, but I'm beginning to think there is actually an argument for going through old files and re-doing the adjustments.

Andy,

I just transfer files to new folder on my computer hard drive using the Finder 's drop-and-drag. I used the Finder to look into the new file folder and my DMR files had thumbnails after the installation whereas prior to that there was no thumbnail. Files transferred prior to upgrade also have thumbnails now. I cannot speak to Aperture functionality because I avoided buying it since Apple wasn't supporting the Leica M8 / DMR DNGs. From the note above, I think Eoin has had success with Aperture, though.

Has anyone gotten older (pre 1.10.2 firmware) DNGs to work? With the current firmware it works great, but my older stuff is just as it was before. At least I get a preview now.

Hi Keith

yes - no problem, right back to last November.

I have found it a good idea to make a new Camera Default profile for the M8 though.

Keep at it!

Yes, I too can see them in the Finder now (direct from a SD card), but they still don't work in Aperture.

I look forward to what Eoin has to say later :)

Andy,

I can't remember if you have an M8 too. If you do can you see the M8 DNG's and not the DMR ones? I can see M8 DNG's on both my G4 iBook and iMac and import and see them direct into Aperture on my iMac. In fact my iMac is sitting referencing and sorting all my DNG's as I write this. Are the DMR 8 bit DNG's or 14/16 bit ones - that might be the difference.

One three grand digital camera is enough... ;) By the time you add lenses, it's like walking round with the price of a small car on your shoulder...

I have the DMR, and, as I said, the Finder now sees the files (which 10.4.9 broke), but Preview, iPhoto, and most importantly, Aperture don't. I have been playing round with Eoin's hack for the M8 from January, but my hacking skills aren't as good as his...

Jono,

thanks, it looks like they have to be reimported or migrated. I have old dngs that were already in the Library and those are recognized, but the previews remain small. Reimporting them fixes everything. I will see if there is a better way.

regards,

keith

Andy,

As they say close but no cigar yet. I'm having trouble with blown highlights in aperture with the DMR DNG. I'm still working on it but as yet have no solution.

Example is a DMR downloaded from a website comparing DMR & 20D(sorry who ever you are I've forgotten where I got it to give credit)

First is a Tiff conversion using DCRaw output from Aperture and the second is the DNG brought into Aperture and output the same way. See what I mean:(

Thanks for this.

How did you get this far?

I got close enough to see a preview in Aperture, by right-clicking on the red section that says "unsupported".

I'll post a screen grab if it helps.

I'd like to help you solve this in any way I can, obviously.

Andy, while they have updated the Core image support to recognise the M8 the DMR is not in the raw.plist. You'd need to hack the raw.plist and paste the following entry

<key>Leica Camera AG-R9 - Digital Back DMR</key>

Andy, I don't think it makes any difference if you used a R8 or R9 to take the image the DMR just assigns that tag in the unique camera info tag.

I could be talking out of my hat here as I don't have a DMR. Any chance you could give me a raw file to play with as I've no Idea what firmware version the DMR file I'm using is from?. Perhaps they (Lieca) changed something between firmwares.

I don't know what you do for a living Eoin, but whatever it is, you're wasted there.

You should be working for Apple, or Leica, or both.

There are a few functions that don't seem to want to work, but that's probably just my inexperience with the program.

Keep up the good work!

(Does this mean that, potentially, we may be able to have camera-specific profiles too?)

I will upload a raw DNG file to my webspace and let you have a play. Hang on... :)

Sorry the sensor was so grubby ;)

This is from the external HD onto which I stored the files on holiday. It hasn't seen Lightroom, or any other Adobe program.

Right, obviously I've been working with some form of DMR file, perhaps an early firmware file, bugger that anyway.

The DMR also obviously reads the camera used, R8 or R9 and changes the tag accordingly in the exif.

For your R8 try this

First is unprocessed brought through aperture and exported for LUG @ 960px x 960px

Second is the same but with contrast and saturation and sharpening.

And as for sausages, I make them, lot's of them. But it's a little difficult to stop cooking them at a moments notice. Have a peek Gallery
