Alcohol for cleaning lens

I have never heard of using alcohol to clean lenses - at least not the front or rear elements.  I would not risk it.

There are high quality lens cleaning solutions available that are specifically formulated for cleaning lens glass:  https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/127525-REG/Photographic_Solutions_EC_Eclipse_Optic_Lens_Cleaning.html

My preference is alcohol 91% and above, for lenses and bodies. Use a micro fiber cloth.

It could have a drying effect on some parts of bodies such as rubber or leather but used sparingly I haven't had any issues.

I think most lens cleaning solutions are alcohol based. I use isopropanol 99.9% pure and get it from eBay. As Daryl has said it's also great all around the camera for removing grease and the general build up of dirt.

Depends on what you mean by cleaning. I disassembled my Summitar recently to get rid of dust, dirt and fog inside and used, on recommendation, ROR Liquid. Worked very well. But for general cleaning I just use a microfiber cloth.

What kind of alcohol is normally used for cleaning lenses? Are those like isopropyl alcohol you can readily find at pharmacies?

Thanks
