I am using Fujifilm GFX-50s + the zoom lens... so far I find it better than the Leica S zoom... but limited to 2x zoom...

The sensor is better too, newer tech I suppose and higher resolution for cropping.

 

32-64mm

 

Cropped to XPAN ratio (65:24). This is the second reason why I switch to GFX...

I haven't *left* the S system but I keep my Pentax 645Z because of the silly LENR and time limitations of the S system. Also the 20 year old 45-85 Pentax zoom is better than the 30-90 Leica, by a wide margin in the corners.

I shouldn't said cropped to... because it's a feature they made for the GFX. Just shoot RAW+JPEG and select the image ratio to 65:24, and the Viewfinder/LCD will display that 65:24 ratio. It is something else composing with this long panoramic view...

I think you only need this lens as your start up. The 120mm and the 63mm is not that special. Buy it and use Adaptor to adapt. I think they even have a S lens mount available....

Well, best way to learn is to go shoot and transfer over the stuff you use to do with Leica S to this camera and then setup the buttons the way you like...

 

My initial feeling is that there's too damn many button. But now I kind of like it. Also since you can select aperture on the lens. I set it up just so that it's more like a Leica M where I can manually set the aperture via the lens. And set the small dial to just setting ISO... feels much more M like than S...

Some guy in Guangzhou China is making them to order... I think Jeffo Wong who adapted a lot of the Cine Lens to be use on S has ordered that one. Well, you can manual focus, but you can't do anything with the aperture. Maybe this is a good thing as it will by pass the terrible AF motor issue....

Thanks. Yes dummy adaptors can be made, but with limitations, as you say.

 

As a side note: Given the (fairly similar) sensor dimensions of S and GFX/X1D, I would imagine that the next version of S would, in several aspects, be comparable to the Fuji/Hassey. One can, however, expect the cost of the S-body to be put well above GFX/X1D...

They all have electronically controlled Aperture. 

 

So a full mechanical adapter will only leave you with the correct flange distance, you will never be able to stop down or use the Central Shutter or Auto Focus.

 

This is why Leica sells the Leica S-Adapter C and Leica S-Adapter H for high prices, they adapt the lens, and retain full autofocus and aperture control with the Contax 645 and even central shutter up till 1/750th with Hasselblad H lenses.

Well, it is already a pretty known secret that the next gen GFX will be the new BSI (same tech as the A7R2) Back illuminated 100m pixel sensor from Sony,due to come out in 2018, still size at 44x33. So unless Leica's able to produce that kind of tech, the sensor will still not be as advance....

There's already a contax 645 electric mount in development from some guy here in Chengdu China, called Fringer.

Leica's S lens is going to be problematic as leica doesn't open up the system and nobody knows the code... 

 

There's also some people here in Shanghai doing adaptor for Canon lens (think Otus lens, f1.4 55mm and 85mm on a MF... don't worry, they cover the whole sensor) 

 

Awaiting these with great excitement.

Happily using PhaseOne IQ3-100 with newly designed blue ring lenses. For sure missing the weather resistance of Leica S007 but then we have the new 50mp MF Fuji mirrorless for that type of work with better price point or mirrorless MF Hasselblad with its compact size and light weight. Very excited to see the next generation of MF systems and hopefully Leica will catch up to the competition from both technology, cost and customer service perspective.
