Colour Filters

From a previous posting I have limited knowledge of coloured filters. My plans are to buy a yellow and orange filter to go on the end of my Summicron 35mm f2 ASPH and a Summicron 35mm f2 non ASPH lens (the latter to which I have yet to acquire).

The former lens has a clip on rectangular hood and I was wondering if this will be able to be fitted on to of a filter? I already have a UV/IR filter on the front to protect the lens or would this have to come off. I suppose the answers are all dependent on which type of filter I buy. Any advise would be appreciated please. Many thanks.

You can stack the filters – the UV filter should have a female E39mm thread which you can screw the coloured filter into – but it would be more usual to remove the UV filter to avoid having unnecessary glass surfaces for the light to transmit through and to reduce the risk of vignetting.

IMHO, It very much depends on your style and how you view your B&W images. I found ornage was my "standard" B&W filter with red at the handy for nice cloud structures. For me, I seldom used the yellows and they are for sale at half price.
