fotografr Posted March 26, 2017 Share #1 Posted March 26, 2017 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Today I began getting a message from Firefox during sign in to the effect that this site is not secure. Might we be advised why this message is appearing? It reads as follows: This connection is not secure. Log-ins could be compromised by third parties. This is a new feature that is available starting in Firefox version 51. Firefox will display a grey lock icon with a red strike-through in the address bar, when a login page you’re viewing does not have a secure connection. This is to inform you that if you enter your password it could be stolen by eavesdroppers and attackers. Starting in Firefox version 52, you will also see a warning message when you click inside the login box to enter a username or password. Advertisement Posted March 26, 2017 Posted March 26, 2017 Hi fotografr, Take a look here Administrator: Is This Site Secure?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted March 26, 2017 Share #2 Posted March 26, 2017 Even if your login should be hacked, is anybody going to care very much whether an outsider is going to post a bit of nonsense in your name? The level of security should match the level of risk. In general it is wise not to use the same password for different sites. I suspect Andreas will look into it. I'll bring this thread to his notice.
LUF Admin Posted March 26, 2017 Share #3 Posted March 26, 2017 In advance: Nothing has changed with the Leica Forum and there is no current threat to the forum security. I'm aware of this issue and will take measures to change the forum security (and remove this warning) over the next weeks. Firefox and Chrome started to warn users when websites are communicating via the unencrypted HTTP protocol. So they want to convince webmasters to implement HTTPS - which is a good thing in my eyes. Basically it's a easy change but has a lot of consequences - bad consequences if not handled well and thoroughly planned. Please give me some weeks. fotografr Posted March 26, 2017 Author Share #5 Posted March 26, 2017 Thanks for the explanations. My concern never was that someone would log in and make comments under my name. It was more for the numerous people who, despite warnings, continue to use the same password for multiple sites. I am not one of them.
