So I don't have the M10 yet. Still waiting. 

 

I am curious about what Steve Huff call "monochrome filter". 

 

I suppose there are some kind of setting that gives you Black and White direct from the camera? 

 

What are the advantages to do this compared to convert the picture during post processing?

I prefer to handle this in post. But to answer your question, its a quick and simple way to shoot B&W, and if you wants quick jpegs for some reason, its handy.

 

Its also a good way to just view in B&W as you shoot. As long as you have DNG enabled, you can always create your own version.

The one area where I think that mode would be useful is for forcing a monochrome view through the EVF to aide in B&W composition.

 

Otherwise, I don't see the point of that filter unless you don't want to the spend the time to manually tone color images to B&W.
