M6 Classic - underexpose indicator blinks everytime I turn the shutter dial when overexposed

Just bought a M6 classic that's in pretty good condition. But I noticed something weird with the metering indicator light.

When camera setting is overexposed, everytime I turn the shutter speed dial, the left arrow (underexpose indicator) would blink once or more.

It doesn't happen when the setting is underexposed, or if I turn the aperture ring.

I've put in new battery, shoot under different lighting condition and tried different ISO setting (dial at the back) and none of them make any difference.

Tried my friend's M6 classic, no such behaviour at all.

is this normal for a older Leica M6? Serial number 1714XXX

I could still return it if there is something wrong with the camera.

This is a video I took in a pretty bright room during the day, showing the issue. As you can probably see, there is no blinking when the camera setting is underexposed.  But as soon as it become overexposed, everytime I turn the shutter dial, the arrow on the left would blink

When both arrows are lit, that is your proper exposure with the M6 classic.  Other than that, one arrow or the other will indicate either over or under exposure.  It's been a while since I've owned a classic M6 but if the right arrow is lit, that is under exposed and if the right is lit, over exposed.  The blinking arrow will happen as the meter is attempting to adjust to lighting conditions, it happens with my M6 TTL occasionally.  If either arrow was to stay partially lit, it would indicate a problem.   Nothing wrong with your meter and welcome to the forum, look around through the threads and you will learn a lot about your camera.

Hi madNbad

Thanks for the reply and welcome. The "issue" i am seeing is that the under exposed light would blink once or twice when im turning the shutter dial and it is actually overexposed. If you can Check my video and from the middle of the video you can see the left arrow would blink once or twice when i am (and only when) turning the shutter dial. The other M6 I've used didn't see m to have this behaviour. So wondering if anyone have seen this exact behaviour?

Hi Neuer,

yes it might be just dirty contact. But it seems something's wrong and the problem is I can't be sure if it's just dirty contact or something more serious.

So i contacted the seller and sent the m6 back.  It's a shame as the camera is absolutely beautiful otherwise.

I need to search for another M6..   but I'm a bit leaning towards a M7 now,  mostly because of it's brass top (paint won't bubble)
