Arte di mano Leica M10 case with Battery Access Door

I previous used the Arte di mano half case on M240. Liked it but don't own them any more.

I am considering the M10. I see they have case with battery access door. Have anyone use this on M10 or M240? I understand that the base plate will not be used with this case. So will the water be seeped through the gap surrounding the case access door? Is the camera's weather seal capability be compromised?

Also, how does the access door secured? Will it be opened as we move around, taking in/out from bag....

Thanks.

The problem of water or – more likely dust – ingressing through the door crack is something that troubles me.

For my M1, I bought a Luigi baseplate which gives access to the memory card and also to the battery without having to remove the entire base. It is excellent. In fact when I went to the Leica store last week to return my camera to Germany for a sensor replacement, the technician there said that it was an extremely good idea and he did not understand why Leica continues to have a system where you have to remove the entire base simply to exchange a battery. Nor do I. Especially when Luigi has such a simple and obvious solution.

I understand from Luigi that he will be producing a baseplate for the M10 very soon.

The problem is to get a case which will fit the camera with the baseplate because the Luigi baseplate adds 1.5 mm of depth to the camera. I love the Luigi baseplate and I don't like the Luigi cases. With my M1, I have been using a Mr Zhou case which fits and fastens although the top 1.5 mm of the screen is obscured – but it isn't really a problem.

When I eventually get an M10, I shall also get a Luigi baseplate and probably use a Mr Zhou case as well. They are excellent. Not quite as "tailored" as the Arte di mano case which is very beautiful object – but also very expensive.

The Mr Zhou case does the job very well indeed and at a fraction of the price. Probably about $100. I use one on an M7 and also I used to use one on a CL. By getting Mr Zhou cases, I protected my cameras and probably saved getting on for $700.

Do you use these cases for better grip, protection, because you like fatter cameras or for their looks?

This is not supposed to be a challenge to anyone or poking fun, though I can see that it might look that way. I'm actually interested to know why they are popular.

I think it is an awesome case, the fit, as with all Arte de Mano cases is superb. The lack of those silly snap straps to hold the case on is a very welcome change (they don't really do anything anyway) and I have always hated the feel of those snaps against the bridge of my nose when shooting. The new case feels cleaner, tighter and more compact. Removing the base offsets most of the weight of the case. Never really needling to remove the case is huge!

The door itself is in no way weather sealed, but it is the bottom of the camera, so I have no concerns about that myself. The access door is lined with green microfiber like the rest of the inside of the case ( acts as a dust filter of sorts). It is held closed by a relatively weak magnet, yet I have never had an issue with it coming open ( I have 2 + one on my RX1RII). It would be fairly easy to rig up a more positive closure and better sealing if I cared, but if I were going out in the rain maybe I would just remove the case. Wet leather on camera = bad idea.

I go back and forth between naked and half cases from time to time, but I do like the better grip and I dislike sweating on my gear.

I buy mine direct via e mail, but the E Bay listing has very good photos of the door.

The weather sealing will certainly be compromised.
