This year's tourist marketing was a masterpiece of understatement

They are actually talking about a car park.

Years ago Road & Track magazine had a photo of a Renault Five, called Le Car in our market, with large decals to that effect on the rocker panels. The car was under two others, in a auto junk yard.  The caption was something like, "The Academie Francaise goes to great lengths to stamp out Franglaise."

Information panel about a new driverless bus service. My eye was drawn to the clause ringed in red, and the three stops on the route - a lift to the plateau, a funicular to the train station and a cemetery.

"Kiss & Ride"?  The intended meaning was possibly lost in translation along the way.

Lille railway station, France.

I think they are spot on. The model is "Park and Ride" designating a car park (or parking) out of town with a bus service (ride) to the centre. In your example instead of parking you kiss.

I saw another variation yesterday, at a small car park right on the edge of the shopping centre.

Yes I'm familiar with the concept of park and ride but using the word "kiss" implies another activity completely.

Pete.
