Yesterday my S(006) was robbed

Yesterday, at 19.50, a young man on a motorbike took my S(006) by the belt when I was holding the camera on my hand. I was almost entering through my house's door, the key was already in the hole. He came from behind me, and I'm sure he was planning how to do it since a couple of minutes before. It's unbelievable, because I usually work in the outskirts of Barcelona, where theoretically it's less safe than in the heart of the city, and I've never had any problems at all, and this had to happen just in front of my house.

I've already made the declaration before the police, in order to be payed by the insurance. But even if I recover the camera's total value this is a situation, because I'm in the middle of different commissions...

The lens is/was a 45mm f.4 Pentax SMC 6x7. That's a cheap lens, I actually own another copy. But the adapter is expensive: the Zörk Pro-Shift one. It costs about 1500 euros.

Here are the Serial Numbers:

Leica S (006) Serial Nr. 4686864

Lens Pentax SMC 6x7 45mm f.4 Serial Nr. 8590190

Manolo, not good news. It happens everywhere

I have never experienced this kind of theft

Anyway do not forget that there are people watching us and I am

not a paranoid.

Henry

You are right. This guy was following me... We need to be very careful.

And there is a problem with a long strap: with no strap at all he would have not been able to catch the camera.

Manolo , all my cameras have a handgrip , no strap , when I finish shooting I put inside

my Billingh. bag.

Have you an insurance ?  but I think you don't get back the entire price of the camera

But he might have chosen to attack you in the process. It's just stuff....be thankful you're fine. And good that you carry insurance; many do not.

Jeff

Right, just stuff.

I don't think he might have attack me, because here in this city that method is very unusual: there are lots of tourists to chose from.

Let's see tomorrow what the insurance company thinks...

I am sorry about the subtraction, Manolo. I think that the solution will be able to come for what you could obtain with the insurance company. Sadly it is slightly probable that the police recover the camera.

The big cameras always have the problem of attracting the thieves. With the Hasselblad I have had slightly agreeable episodes (though they have never stolen it from me).

Regards

Thank you, friends, for your words.

I was lucky that the lens was this cheap Pentax 6x7 45mm, instead of one of the 2 other lenses I own, the 70 Summarit or the Vario-Elmar 30-90...

Manolo, my regrets over the theft of your camera. When something like this happens to me,I will often share the details for benefit of those who might experience a similar situation, in the hopes they might avoid it. From your description I understood that you had your camera in your hand and the thief grabbed the loose strap which allowed him to dislodge it from your grip? If so, the lesson is not to have dangling strap, ever, when camera is in hand, and either remove it altogether or wrap it around the hand. Perhaps replacing strap with a hand strap that would secure camera to the wrist would be an option. That might discourage the grab and snatch thief. I do hope that you did not lose any work, which, unlike a camera, sometimes cannot be replaced.

Thank you for posting. It is all to easy to forget that there are bad people who will strike when least expected. Your story is a cautionary tale for all of us who wish you well.

Terrible news indeed but as many have said..It is only an object.. You are OK, albeit upset...

With the insurance money you can upgrade to an 007 and still have some $$ to spare!

That was my purpose when posting, telling my experience, so that others learn without having to suffer :-) :-)... Thank you for expressing it so well, David.

That's it: never, ever, let the strap hang. If there is no strap, the possibility of dragging the camera disappears.

On my M246 the strap is now reduced to the absolute minimum...

Today, July 9 at 3:00 am (Moscow time), two masked men hacked shop's metal shutter-door, kicked the glass door with a sledgehammer and broke into the shop Leica on Leninsky Prospekt. After breaking all the showcases, they stole part of the technique, which was in the store. Thieves coped for 1,5 minutes. When the posse arrived, the scene was empty. Video showed that.

At 10 am, as usual, our guys came to work. They could not believe theirs eyes. Until now, the whole team comes into a state of shock. The ease with which you can destroy all that was created with love and labor for years...
