M10 LV Horizontal Banding?

The above behavior just started, seems maybe to correspond with the firmware update, but maybe not... has anyone else experienced this?  I would describe it as dark and light horizontal bands within the LV image.  Everything is fine during playback.  Images seem to come out normally.  ??

Seems to have only in certain rooms (all with artificial light)... in some its quite bad and in others it seems to go away.  Maybe this is normal behavior with certain artificial (LED?) lights?

Thanks.

hmm... it seems to be certain rooms only, particularly ones that have lower Led lighting with cream colored walls... happens especially when I point the camera at a plain uniform cream colored wall... get two dark bands running through the LV... again, has no impact on the captured image... very weird... i've tried with a couple of different lenses and i'm in auto ISO..

I've also noticed that sometimes... though not all times... when i pull up the menu the display brightness will vary from set intensity and then will drop for a second and then come back... a bit subtle clearly happening... seems like maybe the electronics in the camera are messed up somewhere?

The flickering issue is caused by the the light source

To our eye they look like they are constantly on, but actually the light is flickering at the frequency of the power supply, 60Hhz in the US, 50 Hhz in Europe

The video display or live view refresh rate is syncing up with the pulsing of the lights, causing the interference or banding you are seeing. You should also notice that it changes with shutter speed.

Thanks.  That all makes sense to me except the last statement.  The shutter speed is just a setting that has no bearing on the LV right except for the "moment" that the image is captured.  so how wold the setting on the shutter speed dial have any effect on the phenomenon that you are rightly describing?  Thx

yea sorry that later part refers to screen on a video camera...I copied that from a reply I posted earlier on another forum asking about the same issue on a digital video camera. Changing the cameras frame rate between 24/30/60 fps will affect the strobing.

Unfortunately, many light sources show this flickering. Unfortunately most modern LED lamps!

By the way, this not only influences live view but also your final images!!! On your images you probably won't see any banding, but overall exposure can vary depending on shutter time. As long as the shutter time covers a full or at least half of a cycle (1/50s or 1/100s at 50 Hz), you won't see a problem, but a shorter shutter times there is definitely a big problem sometimes... Just another challenge for us photographers. But we love challenges, don't we  :D

@Leicauser7: Your camera is fine! :-)

I've seen this too, on FW 1.0.2.0. I haven't updated yet.
