Cold M10 whether issues?

I was using a Monochrome and an M10R today. Batteries fully charged. Outside temperature ca -2degC. Both cameras stopped working inside 5 minutes of leaving the car. I am deeply disappointed to the extent that I’m considering selling all my equipment. Hopeless. I’m supposed to be doing a tour of north Norway in March. I think I need another camera for that.

The M11 seems to have resolved the problem

I rather doubt that. The problem with cold and M cameras is that they are small, metal and poorly insulated cameras. No nice fat body with air around the battery, only thin leatherette instead of plastic and rubber covering. Which means that the battery will cool down to ambient temperature rather quickly. And Li-Ion batteries perform poorly in cold conditions.
The solution is obvious: keep the camera under your coat to prevent heat loss - the electronics will provide some heat if you leave the camera switched on-, keep one or more batteries in a warm pocket to swap out when the inevitable happens.

The reverse is also true - when the camera is used in hot conditions, say around 35-40 ºC, it will accumulate heat to combine with the electronics and get pushed beyond its maximum operating temperature.

I went to Tromso and further a few years ago with my M240. One battery in my pocket, one in the camera. It was clear, dry and between -2 and -5C.

I shot the aurora from about 20:00 to 00:30 the next day and still had battery left. Just swap them out when they get cold, as Jaap has commented.

I frequently shoot my M10M and Q2M in Moscow winters, especially when outside temps average -10+ C.   Sure, battery life is much shorter, but I can easily get 1.5 - 2.5 hours if not using Live View and not laying on the shutter release the entire time.  I always keep spare batteries inside my jacket and close to my chest.  The best advice is to keep a few spares tucked away and warm for when you need them.

Well, also battery was almost dead but managed to shoot what I wanted. So far I'm happy for Leica's cold performance
