vladik Posted February 13, 2017 Share #1 Posted February 13, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) What would be the most durable Leica (M series) body finish? I am planning to keep the next Leica for a while and do not want it to ‘brass’. Yes, yes it might be traditional desirable look that you might desire and like, but I do not. Logically it most likely is chrome black (I prefer a black) then some black paint. Or is there any other finish option? Thank you in advance for your advice. Advertisement Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 Hi vladik, Take a look here Most durable to abrasion body finish?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
digitalfx Posted February 14, 2017 Share #2 Posted February 14, 2017 (edited) You can currently get black or chrome that's it The finish is extremely durable, and unless you use it every day full time the finish will hold up just fine. I don't baby mine and never use a body case...and my M's have always looked great after 3 years of use with only minor rubs, nicks etc. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro Edited February 14, 2017 by digitalfx
a.noctilux Posted February 14, 2017 Share #3 Posted February 14, 2017 Leica M edition 60 in stainless-steel body may be the choice: http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/leica-m-edition-60/leica-m-edition-60A.HTM without LCD to break

cookedart Posted February 14, 2017 Share #5 Posted February 14, 2017 In my opinion the silver chrome version shows abrasions the least. A mark tends to show up as higher contrast on a black chrome body.
jimleicam3 Posted February 14, 2017 Share #6 Posted February 14, 2017 My 35 Cron and 50 Lux are both black, I am about to order the M 10. Silver or black? My M 8 was silver and it looked fine. How are black lenses looking on the new M10? Thanks

chris_tribble Posted February 15, 2017 Share #8 Posted February 15, 2017 Silver chrome is likely to show least wear. Three was a discussion about technologies somewhere on the forum and the idea was that if the substrate start to show through its less noticeable on the silver.
edwardkaraa Posted February 15, 2017 Share #9 Posted February 15, 2017 Esthetically speaking, I never liked the look of scratches on silver chrome. The black chrome ages better in my opinion.
albertknappmd Posted February 15, 2017 Share #10 Posted February 15, 2017 Silver chrome effectively hides the scratches ... Black show's beautiful (in the eyes of many) patination/rubbing.. Your choice.. Albert
jonoslack Posted February 15, 2017 Share #11 Posted February 15, 2017 Hmm Well, I think they scratch about as easily as each other, but the black chrome goes grey with age, whereas the silver chrome doesn't You won't see any brass either way unless you're particularly brutal!
lct Posted February 15, 2017 Share #12 Posted February 15, 2017 Not sure what black chrome is exactly but my black anodized M4-2 from 1981 becomes grey and scratches look grey as well whereas my silver M3 from 1956 looks like new by comparison. I can back that up, I have chrome cameras for a long while. No scratching, no braising at all. The leather of the ever ready case keeps it well.
