mikemgb Posted February 2, 2017 Share #2 Posted February 2, 2017 (edited) Many years ago there was a butcher not far from there that made the best meat pies. Beautiful photo that brings back some wonderful memories. Edited February 2, 2017 by mikemgb

dkCambridgeshire Posted February 2, 2017 Author Share #6 Posted February 2, 2017 (edited) Just around the corner in Maiden Lane is The Kings Head restaurant where the renowned Adnams Southwold Ales are served … never tried them myself as I prefer still cider i.e. with no fizz. Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! Leica R 19mm Mk II Sony A7S… this was the first time I'd tried the 19mm R lens with the A7S … wide angle R lenses work better than wide angle M lenses on Sony A series because they are more telecentric. This did not require any perspective / distortion correction because the A7S' semi-articulating screen permits holding the camera above eye level - thus enabling camera tilt to ensure verticals are acceptable. Leica Camera AG do not seem keen to incorporate articulating screens into their cameras. dunk Edited February 2, 2017 by dkCambridgeshire
 Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! war Posted February 3, 2017 Share #9 Posted February 3, 2017 Very nice series. I appreciate the straightened images, by pp or ooc, that I think are essential to good architectural images.
dkCambridgeshire Posted February 3, 2017 Author Share #10 Posted February 3, 2017 (edited) One characteristic of many of Stamford's buildings is the 'Collyweston roof' comprising Collyweston limestone slates which are laid in diminishing courses from the eaves to the ridge; the largest at the eaves can be 2 feet wide and 3 feet long. The slates can last for hundreds of years and can be re-used. Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! A good example of a Collyweston roof is the St Marys Vaults restaurant, 19 St Mary's Street. Stamford; note the sizes of the eaves' slates compared to those at the ridge. The inn dates from the late 15th or early 16th C - thus over 500 years 'young'; the charismatic timber framed roof is distorted but it is structurally sound. dunk Edited February 3, 2017 by dkCambridgeshire
 Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! war Posted February 3, 2017 Share #11 Posted February 3, 2017 The slates are distinctive and the distortions of the roofs and half-timbers give these buildings their unique character. Beautiful image.
mike_j Posted February 4, 2017 Share #12 Posted February 4, 2017 (edited) Nice pictures and the black and white conversion suits the images very well, What conversion software did did you use? I know wide angle R lenses work better than M lenses on the Sony but it will be interesting to see a comparison with some from your Konica Dual Range M mount lens at some time. Shame they won't be eligible to post here. Edited February 4, 2017 by mike_j
dkCambridgeshire Posted February 6, 2017 Author Share #13 Posted February 6, 2017 Thank you Michael. The monochrome images are very simply processed using PS Elements 'Convert to B&W' - the particular option within its range chosen to suit any particular image. I have also tried other B&W conversion methods but PS Elements is so easy to use. The Konica 21-35 Dual will be used with the Leica SL thus enabling posting images on TLF. Last Saturday I tried some more Stamford architectural images using the 50+ years young Leica R 21/4 Super Angulon lens on the A7S; several photos to PP including part of the George Hotel but here is one you'll recognise: Welcome, dear visitor! dkCambridgeshire Posted February 6, 2017 Author Share #14 Posted February 6, 2017 (edited) Later, at dusk, 17.00hrs Saturday 4 February i walked down St Mary's Hill, and over St Mary's Bridge into High Street St Martins to photograph Stamford's well known George Hotel. Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! A7S Leica R 21/4 Super Angulon ISO 12800 1/800 f8 Deliberately left the cones in the image; current roadworks necessitate temporary coned traffic lights. Cones cloned out in this image. Note the Collyweston tiled roof. Photo taken from a convenient archway in High Street St Martins directly opposite The George which enabled 'stepping back' to include the whole front view of the building with camera pointed upwards … but leaving plenty of the archway 'border' around the building … thus permitting perspective / verticals correction in post processing . A7S Leica R 21/4 Super Angulon ISO 8000 1/125 f8 The s/h A7S was acquired especially for use in low light situations. I also used an ancient Zeiss Jena 20mm f4 lens which is a surprisingly sharp and distortion free optic … plan to use the lens with the Leica SL and will post results in due course. war Posted February 11, 2017 Share #19 Posted February 11, 2017 Thanks for the posting in color. That spot of sunlight brings out all those gold colors in the stonework. Fascinated by your images, I took a tour through the town this morning via Google Earth and Street View. These old buildings are quite beautiful particularly those with their storefronts in vivid colors. (No. 13 had a bright green storefront about a year earlier) Thanks for posting these images, you're a great ambassador for Stamford, Lincolnshire. Tom Barry Posted February 14, 2017 Share #20 Posted February 14, 2017 Fine images of a fascinating place. I agree that getting the perspective squared away is usually a key to architectural photography. I find articulating monitors quite helpful.
