In the interview with Stefan Daniel :

He says two important things: The Leica M 11 will get into production sooner than the interval M 240 - M 10. ( 17:00 - 20:00 minute ).

Also it will be called M 11.

The Leica M will always be the best camera for M lenses, hence the new sensor of the M 10.

The development of the M 11 has not started, but we are welcome to speculate. Leica will read the speculations and act accordingly, using the Leica user Forum like one easy marketing tool.

This gives us , not only means to influence the development of the M 11, but also gives us responsibility.

Some (factual) speculations:

The M 11 will be the same "33,7 mm"  size body.

The Leica MP 10 will be sooner as expected ( if it will come ).

The iso knob will stay as part of the philosofy : you can prepare the camera for action without looking on the menu.

My wishes at the moment: none.

Oh, I do have a wish: bring video back, if possible in such a discrete manner as not to upset the more traditional users. Consider the tradition of the Leica Travel Camera as promoted by Dr.Paul Wolff; he carried an extra cine camera to supplement his Leica travel photography.

+1

Leica should have a secret video feature (better than discrete). These all can be undocumented and passed on verbally in secret and sound proof meeting rooms. No one else will know. Couple of ideas below to enter video mode. After that you can use shutter to start/stop the video.

In no particular order.

- Press LV, PLAY and MENU at the same time (or use some sequence of presses) to enter video mode (like ctrl+alt+delete of Windows).

- Knock on the LCD using morse code for V.I.D.E.O. and camera will go into video mode.

- Lift ISO knob. Turn it between A and 100 and it will go into video mode. Video haters will think you are using manual ISO and will give you thumbs up.

- Make V with your left finger in front of your lens in LV mode and camera will go into video mode. Note: Don't use middle finger in front of the lens in LV, else camera will crash.

These are some of the ideas which allows us to use M11 for video without being assaulted by video haters.

:D :D

I'd be very interested to see the return of multiple viewfinder magnifications, even if only as extra cost and build-to-order a la carte options.

Battery consistency is important. Harmonizing large and small batteries across M, SL, and X lines would be a meaningful feature to attract more multiple-line customers.

Above all, pursue quality above specification. These will never be items that need to capture the potential customer's purchase intent within 15 seconds of product introduction. Leica's staff almost certainly knows more about the trade-offs inherent in their products than I ever will. Continue making compromises that favor photography, even if it is hard to describe how they do so, and I will continue to be loyal to Leica products.

...expanding Leica Akademie wouldn't hurt that process, though, and is likely more important than expanding Leica Boutique.

Interesting is all the talk about sooner is better, and also projections of four years.

How long do you all expect to live?

A proper Leica should either be too young to attend kindergarten or old enough to have earned its MD-PhD. Shepherding them through the interim years is an act of love, not of volition.

Cheers,

Jon

A zooming viewfinder (like Nikon SP), where the frame lines for lenses 24 to 90mm occupy about 75% of the finder so we can still see around the image. Or an electronic viewfinder (6MP with >120Hz refresh rate.

A battery that lasts a full day for The One Challenges (day and night) with the camera on, viewing images, chimping, no power save and about 500 photos.

Video.

No more retro, 'unscrew the base plate' which was a stupid idea in the first place and requires two hands and a mouth. Or at least put it on a hinge.

An ISO knob that you can push sideways towards camera body with your left thumb to change.

Bigger lettering on ISO and shutter speed (people under 50 wont understand) :-)

The knob from the SL instead of the dial.
